Horrible quality on steam profile picture? PLEASE HELP

Hey.
So I uploaded some pictures as a profile picture but every picture becomes really bad quality?
Every one of them is in the right dimensions, 184x184.
They all look really good and really high quality in windows picture viewer and everywhere else.
It's like steam takes the picture and just.. ♥♥♥♥♥ it up.

If someone's got an idea of what to do, please help. Thanks.

Everyone of them is PNG, and I've tried other formats aswell. Doesn't work.

I usually use .jpg's which are larger than 184x184. I seem to have better luck when my picture gets downscaled. I've used .png's that are larger and they still come out pixelated.

yeah, try upscaling to a higher res and try uploading it. I regularly use way bigger images and the compression is never that bad, even in jpegs.

Yeahh.. I tried to use 368x368 once, and upload it, but steam said i couldn't upload it/use it.. Will try again!

I know for a fact it can, it just has to be under 200kbs. .jpeg should work fine if its too big in PNG. should look much better than it does now in any case.

My guess is that it's Steam. Just uploaded a pic that was 552x552, still ♥♥♥♥.

Steam forces the image to be compressed to a 184x184 JPEG with the quality of 8 out of 10. It is like this for everyone, nothing you can do about it.

actually I dont think thats true. I still think your images quality is below par: I regularly change my avatar and i've never noticed the awful compression yours seems to have.

edit: actually I -know- its true (that Steam does infact compress the image to a low quality), I just think it shouldn't look AS bad.
