They could get sued for damages. Up for grabs:
All the money they made from every transaction of the copyrighted material.
All the money from transactions people made selling stuff to buy the copyrighted material.
Did the offending artists get more attention from the copyrighted material than they otherwise would have? All that money would be up for grabs too.
This is the kind of crap you have to put up with when you want to "feed" off your community workshop.
It is endless.
I explained it to you on the first page. I'll say it again.
They didn't leave the Howl in the Huntsman Case because it was a weapon designed by Auzzii and sic. They used a copyrighted image on their weapon without permission for profit. Therefore, all their submitted skins have been removed, and their accounts banned.
None of their skins drop anymore from the Huntsman case.
"but den why didn't value just left the new howl in the huntsman case" you might be wondering?
The Howl skin doesn't belong to Valve now that they've changed the design. Dealing with digital items that have already been purchased is difficult. You can't just have a recall. Throw trading into the mix and it's a right mess.
Is this the fault of paying customers or fair traders that already own an M4A4 Howl? Of course not, they've done nothing wrong. So how do we keep these people happy, whilst eliminating any and all copyright infringement?
Change the design to something similar, completely void of copyright infringement, and create a new 'contraband' category. This keeps your customers happy, and fixes the problem.
Could they have dealt with this differently? Perhaps. Mind you they've only had a few days to come up with this fix.
Is this an elaborate scheme to make Valve filthy rich?
I sincerely doubt it.
"For owners of the M4A4 | Howl and Howling Dawn sticker, those items have been replaced by an alternative designed by the CS:GO team." Who then owns the new design? The CS:GO team? Asking you they don't apparently.. But who owns the howl skin now after it has been redesigned by Valve? I don't get it.
Spot on
the revenue from the howl selling on market is like 0.0000001% on their budget
I worded it poorly, I will admit. The assets obviously belong to Valve, since they've redesigned the image. I mean, the skin as an entity, stepping in and claiming it, to continue selling.
The weapon is still called a Howl and looks similar to the Howl, because paying customers purchased the Howl.
Changing the design is quickfix to their legal problem, and changing it to a 'contraband' item is their way of keeping the peace with customers. It's better to up the customer's investment than to have them lose money.
I imagine more legal problems in that case.
Anyways, I'm done. There's no sense in arguing with conspiracy theorists.
This argument is a complete fail tbh.
You say, Valve only wants money. That is the reason they don't make a new HL.
Well, afaik HL is a Game. Games cost money. You see where i get there? If they would only care about money, we already could have Half Life 10. But we don't.
