Cause the word 'kill' is so permanent, negative and harsh. It might offend the 12 year old russian kids.

frag is a fairly common term for kill

Frag was first used in the military (frag grenades, getting killed by it was called "getting fragged" or sth like that, because of the fragments of the grenades, which pierced through the body)

In shooters "frag" is more used in DM modes, because, like hommamuikkunen said, "kill" would be sth like a permanent status (for a round)

a) most of the players are not taking part into the naming of stuff
b) a lot dont even take part into calling stuff as it should be called (like banana, catwalk, balcony, etc.)
c) dont assume anyone who answers your questions is doing so, i, for my part, dont even take the time to difference between a kill and a frag, too many reasons to not start with calling "frag"'s

Anyone who's played fps games even for a little bit should know what and why the term "frag" is used. The term has been used since the early 90s, so if you don't know, you'd best take your ass to Urban Dictionary.

I actually heared it the first time in a computer game too, I m not a native speaker tho.
