I had this archaic 16mbit/s adsl connection where I lived couple years back and it was better regarding multiplayer games than my current 300 mbps wireless crap that I have now because there is no landlines/fiber here. I used to have ~15-20 ping in every match with no fluctuations, packet loss, choke or any other problems. Now it's 30-40 and I can feel the difference when I'm on a server which is somewhere else than in Sweden. It's just not ideal and it's unstable as well.
Just stay away from wireless systems and you're good.
Mine is a fibre connection it’s not through a phone line, I had a 250 mb connection for years when I wasnt even gaming and didn’t need it and now that I’m getting back into it my internet has been downgraded 😬 but glad to know it should be fast enough 👍🏻
It's not about mbits per second but instead about stability. For any other use nowadays 20/2mbps would be considered pretty slow but for gaming it's more than enough.
Just to put this in perspective, my wireless connection I'm using now is 300/50mbps and I get worse latency (20-30mS, sometimes more) and there's other small issues as well. So whatever you decide to do, don't trust wireless things when gaming. Even the old school landline (ADSL) is always better than wireless. It's not about it's speed. It's about consistency and stability. And running your signal through actual lines guarantees always smaller latency. Good luck.
