Why do people say CS 1.6 instead of just CS?
I've noticed that people call the original CS Counter Strike 1.6 instead of just CS. Why? What's the 1.6 mean?

Calling it just CS ... people wouldn't know what the person means, He could mean source, 1.6 or even GO by saying just CS

It is the version number, and 1.6 was the last and most succesful. After all, it started as a half life mod.

Counter-Strike is a mod for Half-Life 1 and there were many versions. People still debate about whether 1.5 or 1.6 was better (1.5 was the last version you could play without having Steam installed), hence people got used to add the number when they were talking about it.
