Does higher ping give players an advantage?
This is probably a topic that has been exhausted from talk, but I want to get some factual answers with reasoning if possible. Does higher ping give players an advantage is CSGO? I'm aware that CSGO has lag compensation (as every multiplayer game does) and this is what makes it playable with the massive ranges of pings that many players have.

Just going to add in this anecdotal piece (not factual but it's just an observation), as I've been moving up the ranks I noticed that I'm playing with people from outside the United States. Some examples being far Canada, Lithuania, Peru, etc. And these players are constantly on 100+ pings. These players were good, not going to lie, they had good game sense and aim, but common reasoning is that the higher ping the worse the game will be.

When I play against these players, something feels off and bizzare things happen. Shots don't seem to register on their person and more frequently I've been finding myself instapeeked aorund a corner and tagged, in some situations I even get shot arounda corner before the player model comes out.

So this is leading me to believe that maybe the lag compensation of CSGO gives advantages to higher ping players specifically in the area of peekers advantage? It sounds farfetched, but Battlefield I know has had this problem so maybe there's something similar?

TLDR: Lag compensation of CSGO gives peekers advantage to higher ping players?

In my experience, no. I have a great 150kb/s up, and my internet is often unstable. I've probably spent a sorrowful 800 hours in this game lagging, and I always perform a lot worse with lag and find it harder to get kills.

There are two types of lag depending on connection from what I see:

Type 1: Inconsistent packet due to poor internet- where your router isn't fast enough to send enough information to the server to update your info fast enough so you end up spiking a lot and "teleporting" across the map as the packets arrive and update the server.

Type 2: Consistent packets, but lags due to distance- where you lag because of your distance from the server but you have a consistent internet speed. Your movements in game are just updated less quickly.

You seem to fall into the first type.

This is just a theory. Since you're the first type, your inconsistent packet transfer is making the server confused and updating your game and the registration at random moments. Creating this jittery effect that makes it hard to play.

For the second type, they're just behind everyone else by a second. And maybe this ♥♥♥♥♥ with the lag comp? Say that on my screen im around a corner, but on my Type 2 connection opponents screen he sees my head just before I made it across and fires. On my screen again I get HS after I made it around and it makes no sense, but he gets the kill because I'm assuming peekers advantage applies to kills to? The peekers kill/packets are given priority because he peeked?

Idk

Peekers tend to already have an advantage honestly, I've never had a problem playing against people with lag, but I've played against a few people who had artificial lag that gave them a huge advantage
