Is there any way to get a camo for free in CS GO?

I am a beginner, and not well-versed with the game and the 'trading' part. So, is it possible that I could get a skin/camo for free? Maybe, by picking up a camo weapon in online active mode?

Moreover I have a recieved a gift(says so), which is displayed during warmup in online play. Is there any way I can open it?
