AMD r7 M260 won't run my games on high performance GPU
Product Name: HP Pavilion 15-p142nl
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)
I have a laptop HP Pavilion 15-p142nl:

AMD A10-5745M with AMD Radeon HD 8610G 768MB integrated graphics card
AMD Radeon R7 M260 2GB (dedicated graphics card)
12GB RAM
Windows 10 64 bit

The problem is that the laptop refuses to make any use of the R7 m260... for video games and everything, it's always using the integrated HD 8610G.

The laptop detects the R7 card, as it is shown in the device manager, as well as a 'linked card' on the CCC and on other programs like AMD System Monitor. But the card simply doesn't do it's job, it doesn't start working. I've used the AMD System Monitor to check if it had any activity, and it's always 0.
- I have used the Catalyst Control Center to control the Switchable Graphics and set my games to high performance. This should make the R7 be the main graphics card for that videogame, but it doesn't work.(I've tried different games like GTA V, Skyrim or TDU2).
in bios i dont have any settings

you have to go into your bios when you startup your laptop and set your dedicated gpu to run first
The M260 isn't powerful at all...

In that case it seems like a hardware fault. To rule out software completely you could re-install windows but I don't think it'll make a difference...

btw M260 and 5745M are very weak and will not be able to play gta 5 at all (16-31fps @1360x768)

I'm having the same problem with the same graphics card since 3 days ago. It was running my games just fine. Went to bed and when I woke up, they're all very very laggy. Windows did an update that night. But nothing I do will fix it. I rolled back the driver, uninstalled it completely and reinstalled it. I even disabled the Intel integrated graphics to see if it would force the computer to use the AMD. All it did was try to use the "Basic rendering device" I've seen a few other posts on other forums about this and they all started on the same day. If it's a hardware problem, it's a very specific one.
noone now what we can due?

OK, I think I got it fixed. So far so good anyway. First, you need to stop WIndows from updating drivers. http://www.tomshardware.com/faq/id-2763685/stop-windows-automatically-updating-device-drivers.html This article will explain how to do it.

Once that's done, use system restore and go back to a restore point before Windows updated to screw up the driver (for me that would be the 8th of October). This will take some time (took about 45 to 60 minutes for me).

That seems to have fixed it for me. Hope it works for you. Good luck.
