How can new players upgrade to level 2 for playing competitive matches?

Hey together,

so my friend started playing CS2, currently no prime status (cause he first want to test if he will like it or not). According Steam, without Prime-Status, players cant rank up and cant get XP. But also according steam, a new player cant join competitive matches without level 2.

So how is a new player supposed to get to level 2, when he is not allowed to rank up? My friend played few games in deathmatch and also made some kills and so on. But looking at his profile, he's still level 0 and has zero XP.

Does he really need to buy Prime, even though hes not sure if he will like CS2 and will continue to play it...

CS2 is like your typical paid games, it has demo, it has full game.

Non prime = demo CS2
Prime = full game

Yes, he needs to buy it in order to have a great experience, non prime isn't good.

you can play comp without prime, i dont have it either. The only thing is that you can't play premier.

Question is not about good or bad experience. Question is about how to get to lvl 2, which is a requirement to play competitive matches, without prime.

Buy the game if you want to unlock ranks.

Prime is like basic human rights for CS2. If you don't have it, you will be discriminated and segregated from the prime pool. The prime pool is pretty fun and competitive whereas the free lobbies are riddled with cheaters.

Yes, you can play comp without it. But as I said, it's filled with cheaters and you most likely won't enjoy it. There isn't much point either as you can't get a rank or a level without having prime.

Why are you all acting like a salesman trying to sell me prime? Is my question hard to understand? Again: Is it possible without prime to play competitive matches (not premier)? If so, why is ranking up to level 2 (which is the requirement for competitive match) then not possible for a new account?
