"Kicked for input automation"?
Haven't been playing CS2 for a long while but today I started playing some casual games again. Then I got kicked for "input automation" - wth does that mean?

I've never used any keybinds like jumpthrow binds or anything, my settings are basically default. I use a Varmilo VA88M keyboard and a Logitech Superlight mouse.

Can someone explain why the game kicked me for input automation so that I can avoid triggering it again please? Should I just stand still 90% of the time and just limit my movement to W?

Does your keyboard have snap-tap enabled by any chance?

No, the keyboard is around 5 years old and it doesn't have snaptap or QMK/VIA. It's just a basic wired mechanical keyboard with MX Brown switches. Doesn't have any special features.

The keyboard is so old Varmilo doesn't even have it listed on their product page or support/user manual page anymore.

Edit: Oh, it says on a reseller product page it has "anti-ghosting" (being able to register multiple keyboard button inputs at once?). It's probably why, no? How would I go about disabling that then?

It's so baffling to me this was implemented so poorly by Valve while at the same time there are cheaters running rampant with wh/aimbot. I read this feature was introduced in August yet it's STILL an issue? Way to make me not play the game - by kicking me whenever I try to.

Then I really don't know. Maybe you're just that quick with your inputs that it thinks it's not humanly possible. Heard of a few such cases where people were just spamming A-D-A-D and got kicked with that exact message.

I do play like that a lot whenever I hold an angle, like just ADADADADADAD... I don't think that should be considered input automation though as there is no automation going on. Oh well I'll just uninstall again until they address the issue.

It is because of Valve's implementation to disallow Snaptap.

[Disclaimer: this is not official information]
Basically Valve take account of when you release A (or D) with when you start pressing the opposite key. If it is "too perfect", you will get kicked for "input automation".

Input Automation = macros.

When you have a key executing 2 separate actions/ commands = macro.

While this is not on the same level as aim/ wall ; it is still a form of cheating.

Some games cannot detect it/ some games do not care about it.
Some games cannot detect it but has "EULA" speaking against it, maybe engages in bans as well (in tournaments).

When CS 2 detects such stuff > you get kicked, for the reason you specified.

While I do not call you a macro-user, you should double-check if you have such softwares/ or keybinds already set as a "macro".
EVEN OUTSIDE OF CS 2, do note !

For example, the Razer's synapse program allows you to set such macros, by default within the application.
Maybe Logitech has something similiar to this.
If so, disable/ remove this feature.

Cheers, but I'm 100% confident I do not have any macros anywhere. Not in CS2, not in Windows, not in any other software or in any keyboard/mouse profile. I think CS2's detection is just whack.

I have 2 possible solutions for you, but it's more of a debugging stuff.

Try, unplugging your keyboard & mouse and use 2 different USB slots, if possible.
If you use USB slot 1 and 2 > try 3 and 4 now.

If you use faster USB ones (USB 3 gen 2) > try a slower one, like USB 2.
Or if it's opposite, try switching around.
Test if this makes a difference.

Another question : Do you use Nvidia Reflex in settings ?
If Yes, try disabling and test.
Again, if the other is (disabled) > try enabling and test.

You could also try, to update your keyboard driver - if your manufacturer has one in the first place.
I use such a cheap keyboard, it doesn't even have one ! (bhahaha)
Mouse driver too. (I do not know if Logitech offers drivers these days ; I used to have older gamepads from them without a driver)

If what Regis said can be true, and you have a supercomputer that sends inputs faster than 7-8ms...you can "in theory" slow down your input detection ; so it does not trigger the input automation stuff.

it's not whack.
more information on how this detection works and why it can't kick you for having no automation here:

it's also why all other 1 mil+ players playing this game daily aren't getting kicked for it and only like 10 players have this issue.

Okay if it's not whack then tell me how it happened when I have no snap-tap, no VIA/QMK, no macros, no kind of keyboard mapping software, no binds, not a single thing that could possibly interact or interfer with my keyboard inputs other than the fingers on my left hand?

The video you linked, after a skin trading sponsorship shoutout (lovely...), basically said "it can still kick you for a false positive but it is extremely unlikely". So - was I just extremely unlucky this one time and it shouldn't be happening again then?

I use NVIDIA Reflex (not +boost) yes, and I also enabled the new damage prediction feature they added. I could try moving around the USB connects I guess but idk why that would matter.

The keyboard seems to have f*** all in terms of support nowadays, as I said can't even find it on Varmilo's website anymore. For the mouse I think I need to download G-HUB and see if there are any new available drivers/firmware but again I don't see how the mouse could cause this either?

Anyway, appreciate you trying to help.

because either you do have something but don't know you do or your keyboard has key ghosting (it's kind of old as you mentioned, it might have)
