I’ve been playing Counter-Strike for over 20 years. My first experience was with CS 1.6, but I really became hooked with CS: Source. I spent countless hours in that game, and continued playing CS well into CS GO. Those were simpler times, and I loved the game. But now, with Counter-Strike 2 (CS2), I’ve watched the series regress to what feels like the point of no return. It’s disheartening because I still love clicking heads and nading smoke for that clutch play.

But here’s my breakdown of the current state of CS2:


Competitive Mode:

I’ve deranked from GN4 all the way down to GN1, not because of my own skill, but because teammates keep leaving matches, either at the start or halfway through. I’m not a pro player, but I’m a solid rifler. I’ve even aced a few rounds in my day haha and sometimes play well above my own standard. But honestly, I shouldn’t have to be s1mple just to enjoy this game.

The 30-minute cooldown penalties aren’t enough. Every day, I experience players leaving Competitive matches (disconnected by the user), if you get my drift). At this point, there should be a 3-day ban for anyone who intentionally leaves more than 3 Comp matches a week. I get it—network issues happen, and there should be exceptions. But straight-up quitting mid-match should come with stronger consequences.

You might wonder, "Why do you care?" The answer is simple: I don’t want to be forced to play below my skill level. For example, playing with GN1 players is completely different from playing with GN4 and MG players. Today, I ended up in a Silver lobby, and honestly, it made me want to give up on CS2 entirely. This game, which used to be a nostalgic pleasure, is now ruining that experience.


Premier Mode:

I stopped playing for a few months because of the overwhelming number of cheaters and griefers in CS2. When I came back and won my first and only Premier match, I was rated at 9k Elo. Laughable. Before my break, I was sitting at 14.5k Elo and still had to battle cheaters regularly, but at least it was somewhat fun. Now, I have zero interest in grinding Premier Mode—it’s just frustrating. You’re stuck playing the same 7 maps over and over again, and eventually, you just give up.

I also play on Faceit, because, sadly, that’s the only way to play CS2 competitively. But that shouldn’t be the case. Many of my friends don’t want to play on Faceit because either they’re not in my skill group, or they don’t want to deal with downloading a third-party app for a game they barely enjoy anymore. This shouldn’t be the only solution for competitive play in CS2.


Armory and Skins:

Why is the game I grew up with in such a terrible state now? The Armory update was a huge disappointment. My girlfriend and I both bought the armory pass, hoping to get something at least worth the $34 we spent. Instead, we both ended up with 3 ugly blue skins and one purple. It’s honestly hard to get excited about skins when the rewards feel so cheap. I get that not every skin will be a hit, but after opening cases regularly for over a year, I haven’t gotten anything valuable, and neither has my girlfriend. (she only plays because she knows I enjoy it)

As a player base, we’ve been waiting patiently for a new operation and some new maps, but this is what we get? It’s frustrating and feels like a cash grab. There’s no incentive to spend money on CS2 when the rewards are this lackluster and the game remains in disarray. The whole experience feels broken, and it’s hard not to feel like CS2 is just a pale shadow of its former self.

I’m genuinely asking for the return of CS:GO
or something closer to the version of Counter-Strike that captured the magic we loved. Right now, CS2 just isn’t delivering.

The only reason to play now is grind for skins , sell , make money... buy games on steam that dont ♥♥♥♥...

I done with comp and premier.... so many cheaters greiffers makes it such a waste of time..

I stick to casual now... i can join and leave games as I want without penalty ....which leads to alot less frustration , especially from being stuck in a ranked game with A holes.

That is not even true, I don't see any evidence behind such claim.
