-stretchaspect launch option for Vulkan
When using D3D and playing with a 4:3 resolution, the screen is automatically stretched to fill the screen. If using Vulkan by adding the "-vulkan" launch option, 4:3 resolutions are not automatically stretched to full screen. Please add a -stretchaspect to force fullscreen 4:3 images when using Vulkan.

Windows 11
NVIDIA GeForce 4090

Stretching is not done by the game, its done by the gpu.

My game is stretched no matter the Renderer. No issue.

Im on NVIDIA, and you can set the stretching to be done by GPU or Display, not just the GPU. In D3D, my game stretches a 4:3 resolution no matter what, but when using Vulkan, it will not stretch 4:3 resolutions like D3D does.

I mention -stretchaspect because this is how CS1.6 stretches a 4:3 resolution image in OpenGL.

Thats what you already wrote.
You can try checking your displaysettings (Monitor). I can choose to use fullscreen or aspect ratio or 1:1. Check you have fullscreen selected if you can chose.
And you can try the launch command -fullscreen in steam.

i do use the -fullscreen launch option. i tried to go into NVControlPanel > Display > Adjust desktop size and position > Scaling and change the settings there. I have "Aspect ratio", "Full-screen", and "No scaling" options. Changing these has no effect on Vulkan games. Ill reinstall Windows and try again.

Ok, but i also meant the fullscreen and aspect ratio option in the settings of your PHYSICAL MONITOR SCREEN.

Unfortunately, when using a 4:3 resolution and the "Wide 16:9" setting on monitor, Theres still black bars on the side of the screen when displaying CS2. If I put the game to "Fullscreen Border", the image does stretch all the way, but mouse movement is very stiff, and it lowers my sensitivity. This behavior is specifically a Vulkan issue, as this doesnt happen in D3D.

I should also my specs, as this could be an NVIDIA specific issue.

Windows 11 26252
i9 13900kf
NVIDIA RTX 4090
552.79 vulkan beta drivers

Then i cant help you. But why not just use D3D? I cant notice a difference between the renderers in this game on my system.

I found a way to get 4:3 stretched using Vulkan on NVIDIA.

NVControlPanel > Display > Change resolution > 1280x960 240Hz

NVControlPanel > Display > Adjust desktop size and position > Scaling > Full-screen

CS2 launch options: -noborder -windowed -vulkan

good. But how complicated can it be.
Hope you have fullscreen optimizations working in case you want that, doesnt sound to me that it does.
I just switched from 960p to native 1080p and my muscle memory is not getting distorted anymore because of the hard resolution and aspect ratio switch i had in cs.
Makes no sense to switch aspect ratio and resolution all the time.

thats a good point about the Windows fullscreen optimizations features, it runs stretched in Fullscreen Windowed, which might not apply them since its not true fullscreen.

yeah native 16:9 feels different for sure, and the models are slimmer. i was getting used to playing 4:3 black bars until i found a way to stretch 4:3 vulkan.

Yes it feels like we have to have better aim wiht 16:9 because of everything is smaller, but i would recommend playing the resolution that we use on the desktop.
Or you used 4:3 your whole life in cs, so its in your blood, than i would say, stay with that for this game. But im sure you are way more pro than me.
So just my 2 cents.

i was doing some googling and realized i have GameDVR disabled via registry, which also means i have Fullscreen Optimizations disabled. ive come across numerous tweak guides that say to disable Game Mode, GameDVR, and Fullscreen Optimizations. Along with DPI Scaling as well.

I would recommended you adjust these registry values to disable Fullscreen Optimizations. 2 = Disabled / 0 = Enabled

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore\GameDVR_DSEBehavior" 2

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore\GameDVR_FSEBehavior" 2

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore\GameDVR_FSEBehaviorMode" 2

"HKEY_CURRENT_USER\System\GameConfigStore\GameDVR_HonorUserFSEBehaviorMode" 1

So its a good thing Fullscreen Optimizations are not being used, thats probably why some people recommended borderless windowed for games. that and if you alt+tab alot and stream. Of course with those registry tweaks, using Fullscreen now will feel the same as borderless windowed, or pre Windows 10, since Windows 10 introduced the GameDVR and Fullscreen Optimizations.

Now we will hopefully get the best of both worlds in the future, when Vulkan supports 4:3 stretching via Fullscreen mode. Fullscreen Vulkan games are treated as "Exclusive Fullscreen", which does improve performance, plus having Windows 10/11 feature bloat disabled.

bro idk what vulkan is but this launch option has saved me, i want to play 4:3 black bars but the game kept stretching the resolution to full screen no matter what i done, i had reinstalled drivers, the game, done loads of testing with different options in AMD software, it was so annoying since i could get it to work sometimes by minimizing and opening the game a ♥♥♥♥ load of times but sometimes i could not get it to work even by restarting the game, or playing around in AMD, but you saved me with this launch option just wanted to say thank you.

nevermind it still goes to stretched if u alt tab out of the game during playing and most of the times when u open the game, i do get black bars to work more consistently though after a few alt tabs just after opening the game, since theres a command for stretching the game, is there one that would force black bars? I wonder, thanks.
