Is the overall playerbase just better at counter strike now?

Uh so I am bad. I played css in middle school high school between 2006 and 2011. Then I played csgo from launch until 2016/17 or so. I was never good and the highest rank I ever got in csgo was master guardian 1.

I recently started playing cs2 and practice in casual/deathmatch and against bots for a few days before hopping into comp. When I started comp what I've noticed is I've only had 1 game where it felt like I was playing people at my skill level, we had a draw on office and it was a lot of fun. Otherwise I've lost a lot of games and am noticing at the end of matches people are silver 1 now, but they are all so much better than low end players used to be. Super fast reflexes and accurate shots, popping headshots like its nothing, locking down areas with awps and dominating. And these are the lowest ranked people possible and they're gods compared to what bad players used to feel like.

So either the silver 1 on my team purposefully lost a lot of matches in a row in order to play with bad people or there really is no rank for people who don't know how to play. And he's like "oh my gaaaaawd you are so baaaaaaad" and it's like yeah so why is it matching me with you instead of other bad people? He has all these skins and cosmetics for his soldier as if he is a longtime player that has invested a lot of time and money into the game. There was a massive difference in our ability and the ranks can't go any lower than what he was.

Yes, CS has been out for more than two decades and not much has changed so the skill floor has been increasing.
Also, the matchmaking system wasn't working properly (until two weeks ago?) and people were placed in much lower ranks than they belonged in with little to no ability to climb. You'd probably have a better time if you were to play Premier since the ranks are more accurate there

As someone else said, ranks were absolutely screwed until recently. Talking about everyone not being able to get out of gold nova who are clearly at least global and above so there's probably some lag in regards to that, I know I haven't tried since the change myself.

You're right though, a bad player back in the source days would be someone who could barely control their mouse and I don't mean under the scrutiny of modern eyes, talking literally shaking about like they have nerve damage. People now know at least how to generally keep on target and have smooth aim even if their reactions aren't as fast or their game sense isn't that great.

Overall I think you're just out of practice and have come back at a bad time when people are still trying to find themselves within the ranks, add some CS2 jank into the mix and there we are. People would scoff at this advice but honestly I'd just play casual more so you can at least have fun, it'll build up your muscle memory and reactions times for the game. Then you can shake off any bad habits and go for comp.

And from what I've seen playing with people actually NOT cheating, the overall skill level has dropped by a ton compared to a decade ago.

Even the cheat makers figure at least 10% is hacking. In that sparkles interview.

I think it may be a little higher.

I also think valve knows exactly who is cheating and who isnt. They just are not doing anything about it for some reason.

Btw if even something 14% of the playerbase is cheating, then if you solo queue its almost a 100% chance someone is hacking. And the chance is way greater for them to land on the other team since they have 5 slots, and not 4.

I dont play this game for like 3 years and I am supposed to be as good as I was when I played it everyday? I play it once a week.

I imagine may other veteran players are in the same boat. They dont find this game very fair or fun anymore.

If this many people were psychic in real life, the world wouldnt be a giant ♥♥♥♥ hole like it is now.
