it's been in every cs game and it's been useless in every single one
the negev is more useful (and way cheaper), but it's still a clown weapon for low level players to get cheap wins against other low level players ... the fact that they have both negev and m249 in the game at the same time is crazy!
if this was actually a "competitive" game they would remove or change guns that never get used
Its identity as the old school LMG is what compels hyper casual players to roleplay as their favorite war hero. Furthermore, its identity as the least cost effective gun gives it a hidden psychological damage against anyone who is killed by it, despite it being pretty easy to die to.
In the end, the M249 LMG is iconic enough to stay in the game no matter how impractical is may be. And having it be removed entirely will hurt the soul of Counter Strike.
negev, zeus, xm, cz...
there are a lot of them and they don't all cost $5000
bad game design in other words
other companies like riot don't do things for "hyper casual players", but that is definitely valve's specialty. all you have to do is look at the last cs2 update for a great example.
it's an anti noob gun, only real good players can play this gun
