LAN ONLY - Unable to connect to game server

Hi Guys,

As the title suggests, im having trouble with creating a game to play for practice inside the CS2 application.

Steam support have been less than helpful so i thought id try my luck in the forums to see if anyone else has had a similar issue

Basically, i can connect and play to any Prem / Comp / Casual / AR server with no issues. But when i try to make my own game for practice i cannot connect. The loading screen pops up and the bar loads to the end, but then i get sent back to the main menu with the dreaded - 'unable to connect to game server' error. This is the same for both workshop maps as well as official maps

I find this strange since im technically making a LAN server to play on so there should be no internet connection involved per se and thus no need to connect to any servers.

This has only happened since the new Call to Arms update so im thinking its game file or config related but then i have friends who are up to date and can run a LAN server with no problem.

To make it even more strange, if i run a second instance of CS2 using the -dedicated launch option to give me just a standalone LAN server on my PC, that actually works fine and i can connect to that in game. But that is limited to official maps only and also is a pain when trying to change settings etc...

So far ive tried verifying game files multiple times and even a fresh install of the game (including deleting of cfg files and any other data leftover that may contain something that the game doesnt like) Ive also tried various google searches that suggest flushing DNS on the PC and clearing steam download cache but nothing seems to work!


If anyone is able to get into the technicals of creation of servers; i can post a full console output of the process of the game creating the LAN server which surely must point to where this error is coming from, its driving me insane!

Are you referring to a listen server which is launched through the game's menu (Play > Practice > Casual); or do you mean a separate dedicated instance of the server hosted on a different machine on your network (SRCDS)?

If it's the former, then does launching CS2 and entering the console command below have the same result?

In any case, it is more likely a bug introduced in the Feb 15 update which is supposed to fix a related issue:
