Audio device: "SOUND DISABLED"
Basically, after the latest update I can't make CS2 play any sound anymore. I rebooted my computer, checked all the drivers and stuff. Every single other game and program detect my sound chip and work with it just fine, both for recording and playback.

But in CS2 I have no sound anymore. Literally. And when I go into the settings in the "Audio device" setting there's no way to choose my default sound chip. It is just not there, and the setting says "SOUND DISABLED".

How TH am I supposed to play CS2 without sound? I mean I can, but what's the point?

My OS is Arch Linux, kernel ver is 6.9.1-arch1-1. Sound server is PulseAudio PipeWire

Did anyone else have this problem? I can't get in touch with Steam Support for some stupid reason.

CORRECTION: I got a bit confused. On this particular system I actually have PipeWire.

I can't redownload 37 gigs of data, that will take more than a week.

TEMP SOLUTION.

I tried this env var:
SDL_AUDIO_DRIVER=alsa

Now the sound works. Whenever I try to use the default one (PipeWire) it just doesn't. Basically Valve folks broke something again.

same issue here, used to work fine before an update but now i am unable to get sound working on linux.

Same for me since the last update. I tried to set alsa as the SDL_AUDIO_DRIVER env but this did not work for me. I also still had the .asoundrc file workaround to get sound working at all after the release of cs2 but deleting/renaming this file did not change anything unfortunately.

Same issue on Arch 6.9.2-arch1-1, though I believe my system is using Pulse. I noticed if I forced CS2 to run with Proton instead of Steam Linux Runtime 3.0 (sniper) I was able to get sound, though I ran into a VAC issue with unverifiable files when match making. Also had no issues with sound on other steam games (rocket league)

Experiencing this on Gentoo after the last game update
An issue is being tracked at https://github.com/ValveSoftware/csgo-osx-linux/issues/3748

Having the same issue after this update. Pulse Audio Controller doesn't even show the game as a playback source. In the audio settings it shows "SOUND DISABLED" as well, with no other options. Resetting to defaults did not work, nor did "SDL_AUDIO_DRIVER=alsa".
I tried verifying the files to no avail as well.

I am running 6.9.2-arch1-1 as of today but was having the same issue as soon as this update came out, before any system changes.

Latest update: the launch option "-sdlaudiodriver alsa" worked for me, but you may need to substitute pipewire/pulse/pulseaudio depending on your setup

Facing the same problem on Arch with LTS kernel.

Thanks a lot for the solution @Enot !

Its been 2 days and it seems Valve still hasn't fixed it.

Which version of proton did you use? I either don't get audio even with sldaudiodriver launch option, or vac tells me I need to verify game files.

I don't use Proton. I run it natively.
