What are unique players?

CS:GO always says 3mil unique players last month or some other number but i was just wondering what that ment.

So 3M people launched CS:GO.
Considering people have smurfs, let's say 2.5M active players.

It could also be based on the number of purchased accounts online.

By that I mean individual accounts, not mooching off of someone else's account using Steam Family Sharing.

Unique accounts that have CS:GO installed... of course... that doesn't means that they are playing the game, or they aren't Smurf accounts. If you asking about a player base if think is about 500,000 - 600,000 ... something like that...which is actually very good.

Having said that... this isn't new.. CS have always had a strong active community, but isn't as big as it was in CS 1.6..or CS:S. Everytime they release a new version they lost a portion of the community.
