You can, it's just a different overall method since Valve removed most of the features when released this new game, I'll put the steps below. Keep in mind Steam Support claims it's a permanent removal process, but you actually disable it, they only use the wrong words.

To disable
Step 1: Steam support > CS2 > "I want to permanentely remove this game from my account"
Step 2: Select "Prime status upgrade" (keep in mind it won't remove prime or CS2, it'll only disable it)
Step 3: "Ok remove the listed games from my account" (it'll say CS2 instead of prime, but the system understands what you want to do)

Final: The package Prime Status Upgrade has been "permanently" removed from your account.

When you open CS2 your xp bar will be gone and the game will suggest you to buy prime

____

To restore:
Step 1: Steam support > CS2 > "It's not in my library"
Step 2: "Restore the previously removed package to my account"

Final: You should get an error or a positive notification that it was restored. Either way, when you open CS you should see your xp bar back

I appreciate the detailed response,
I think ill just live with it, I was curious to see if the hackusations are accurate or if it is worse in non prime.

Easier method: find a friend who doesn't have prime. Ask him to join your lobby. Done, now you play with non-prime people.
i think you can use "trusted_launch 0" in console or -untrusted in start options

Why would you want that?

Does it keep your XP and ranks when you remove/restore prime or does it reset?

This thread was quite old before the recent post, so we're locking it to prevent confusion.
