Why do some people play at 1280x960 instead of a higher 4:3 resolution?
A video popped up in my youtube recommendation about why alot of cs2/go players use 4:3 and they showed a clip of players responding to questions about their resolutions with "1280x960". So I decided to try it out and I can see the advantages, but then I swapped to 1920x1440 and the only difference from what I could tell is it's less pixelated, is it something to do with fps, monitors native resolution or just personal preference?

But why 1280x960 instead of something like 1920x1440?

There is. You can hold more tight angles.

it got advantages: 4:3 res makes models wider, and it would be easier to aim at them.

Because certain type of players can not play on HD resolutions by nature, they need slightly blurry picture. I personally can not play HD cuz it own my eyes so badly, I always use 1600x900 or even 720.

it depends on their screem size e.g. my resolution on my 27 inch screen is 1920x1440p wich would be the same as around 1024x768 on a 15-19 inch screen, the best would be if i could get 2560x1440p in 4:3 i would love that because that would be the native resolution for the screen and give me a better 1 to 1 pixel feeling !

lowering the resolution can be a cheat really .. because instead of the pixel just is 1 on the screen it will fill 4 pixels on the screen and be easyer to hit that is why so many pro´s still play with the lower resolutions like 1024x768 on a 24 inch screen ..

I practice in the higher resolutions and if i need to get into high competitive i will lower my resolutions = alot easyer to hit then

I think you could try 1920x1440

I play in 1920x1440 4:3 because it is as close to my native resolution on my screen ..

but i would love if Valve would try give us 2560x1440p in 4:3, because 1920x1440 is not native resolution for 27 inch screens !

1440p is also commonly used over 1080p in high level gaming, where image quality is almost as important as frames per second when you want to compete, that is why i picked 1920x1440p and teached myself to play at that resolution, i come from 1024x768 so i had to get use to it first ! 16/9 just look to wierd for me because the figures and scene is streched upwards and pressed together to something i dont like to play it is to wierd for me to play with a picture view like that.. that is is why 4:3 feels more natural to me and why many pro players play in that resolution !

If 16/9 would drop some heavy ontop of the picture so it would be like 4:3 then i would switch to 16/9 because it is native to my screen .. but untill that happen i stay in 4:3

I mean you can make your own custom resolution you don't really need to wait for valve so.

Yeah when I had an AMD card I could via it's control panel

For 1080p I found out there's an interesting resolution of 1728x1080 with 16:10 aspect ratio, might have to try that later
