Why do people pay so much money for skins?

I know it's not my choice how other people spend their money, but honestly why would anyone waste hundereds, even thousands of dollars on skins? Most of them look pretty silly, and they don't contribute anything. This isn't a rant, I'm really just trying to understand why.

Easy. Where your time goes, your money goes. If you play a lot of cs, it's really hard to not get involved with skins.

Not cringe at all? Most of you are ignorant to the skin system in the first place.. Skins are more like gambling if you blow 100s of dollars on a skin you can still resale on the market for the same price sometimes even more maybe you should look into something before being a cockwad.
