Any tips for the Sawed Off?

So I recently got the Serenity skin for the Sawed Off shotgun, and I just love that it's such a situational weapon, but I cannot for the life of me break even with k/d. Sometimes I get lucky and ambush someone at close range, but I don't kill them with the first shot and get offed myself. Even when I'm aiming at the center of mass at close range, is it because of the insane spread that I don't get kills? I've been getting more pistol kills than the Sawed Off on almost any map due to the fact that pistols are more reliable than the shotgun at pretty much any range.

Basically, aside from carefully checking corners and using tf2 pyro tactics; is there any way for me to improve while using the Sawed Off? Or is this weapon just a close quarters clutch?

The sawed off is a close quarters ambush weapon. Its spread is ridiculously high, so hide, ambush and take the other dude's weapon, or you could flash him and meatshot him. Just my few cents.

Its the only gun with a max distance, learn it and you should be fine. Any pellets past the max distance will not do damage.

Aim for head, with any shotgun this improves the damage.
Try and get behind and shot them in the back.

All shotguns have a max distance, even all the weapons in the game have a max distance.
Sawed-off just has horrible falloff, so you really, Really, REALLY need to keep your encounters close when using it.

Try to pull out your pistol when out in the open. I suggest playing strats so you can use the weapon to it's one-hit full advantage. When you are approaching a corner, pull out the gun and check both corners before re-equipping your long range pistol before you encounter a long-range enemy.

eww such a bad sg if you want a sg that pretty much one shots the nova or m10 i would stay away from sawed off unless you know how to use it its a hide and go r*pe gun for close combat

How do you use the Nova then? I've tried using it but i get better success from the Sawed.

tip would be not to use it, basically most weapons are useless besides m4, ak, awp, p90

There is a lot to go over with the Sawed Off. I see a lot of people going long range with it. Don't do that if you can avoid it. A sawed off is best for lurkers and people who can watch their team's flank. It's basically the MAG-7 of T side. If you ever need to go long range, pair the shotgun with a long range pistol such as the Deagle or R8 for example. I hope this helped you, because the Sawed Off is a hugely underrated gun with huge potential.

Head shots do more damage, who would've thought?
