144hz with 4:3 aspect ratio
Hey guys, when i'm playing CS GO on fullscreen with 4:3 aspect ratio my monitor doesn't allow higher than 60hz, while I change the aspect ration in-game to 16:9, it allows my monitor to run at 144hz. Does someone know how I can still play on 4:3 and get 144hz?
(I have a dual monitor setup)

Playing the client at a different resolution than your desktop will cause it to revert to 60hz. Not sure why...may just pull the lowest hz of all your monitors to play it safe.

Throw "-freq 144" in your launch options to force csgo to display @ 144hz.

Aspect ratio doesn't matter for refresh rate. Bandwidth throughput on the cable & monitor hardware is the only thing that matters.

-freq 144 in launch options; 4:3 will display 144hz.

What kind of cable are you using for your monitor connector?

Some monitors have less response using an HDMI cable at certain resolutions.

I am using a DVI-D cable, but somehow the monitor does not support 144hz when playing 4:3, while it does when I change it to 16:9. Maybe it's because my 2nd monitor is only 60hz?

there is a way to play in 144hz 4:3. what you need to do is right click on your desktop then hit nvidia or amd settings. then you need to go to graphics then turn on GPU scaling. once you've done that you need to open your display settings. go to your advanced display settings then select 1280x1024 or what ever 4:3 resolution you prefer. once you hit apply your entire screen will be stretched. then you hit display adapter properties and select 144hz or 120hz. then you open csgo. when you open it up it will have black bars if you are in full screen. if you like black bars then you are done. if you like the screen stretched like i do then you must go to your video settings in csgo then select full screen windowed. when you do the screen will be stretched and you will be able to play csgo in 144hz 4:3 i hope this works for yalls. btw if you didnt know you cant use a hdmi cable for 75hz+. even if you have a high end monitor like a ASUS VG248QE or a BENQ. you will need a motherboard that accepts DVI cabbles then and only then you can play 144hz.

if your monitor cant run more than 60hz, why are you trying to get 144...
tive Jan 1, 2017 @ 12:50pm
because some people use high end monitors but think using a hdmi cable will get them 144hz

Hdmi 2.0 cables can
