is RGB control software Vac-banable?.
Hi I got my new laptop and I disliked the RGB keyboared ,I have being told that's may I can use the "control center" to disable it.

I heard from close-friend he got banned on cod because of his RGB software?

so what about CS2 or I should wait for their "new Vac" thing?

but yeah I will back-up my old registry.
To get banned the stuff should most likely inject into game, and RGB stuff doesn't do that.
Even though I am not sure about COD AC, but with VAC RGB stuff is safe for sure. I have tons of RGB stuff in my desktop and have never been banned, not in a single game.

And also reg file is not such a problem, you can open it with notepad and check what it does.

I doubt it is possible to get banned due to using RGB stuff at all, most likely your friend lied.

That a registry key, you can't get banned for that somehow, but make sure it won't harm your OS.

The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.

well, ACKSHUALLY, RGB stuff technically does inject into the game, you have to somehow read the game's process memory
it's still injected, just in read-only mode, to read states of the game (like player's current health to make the keyboard glow red instead of green and what not)
do you know what other computer programs inject into the game in read-only mode?
external cheats!^^ they read the memory, never write any memory to the game's process, and draw an external overlay over the game.

so yep, I can see how theoretically you could literally get banned for RGB software:
1) buy an unknown Chinese (for example) company keyboard with RGB and install its RGB software
2) play a game with an intrusive anti-cheat
3) have devs that do not know about that RGB software so that RGB software is not whitelisted in their anti-cheat

if you do not believe me, check out PUBG's false ban wave for an updated NVIDIA GPU driver somewhere in 2020 because of BattlEye, that happened due to exactly the same reason (except for NVIDIA not being an unknown company, some negligence must have took place from both sides)

If there are options like react on HP in game, then of course it should inject, so you should not use that function with PvP games with active anti-cheat. I mean a common RGB stuff, which is not operating with games, is 100% safe.

It is the same stuff with AMD where players got banned because Anti-Lag+ injected into game. You just don't enable it and don't get banned (though it's AMD faults they didn't warn users about their new function is injecting into dlls).

so its better to NOT install it? my laptop is a Chinese not an international brand? also i think they are new because I got good Price with them but i'm not sure.

I wont use the RGB for health/kill frag reactions or other gamming thing, mostly when I use my laptop in dark area but I wanna turn it off (the RGB) when I'm in non-dark room.
sadly the laptop will turn-on the keyboeared automatically once I shutdown the windows (but sleep mode wont' be affected) witch I don't like it.
Chiyoko Nov 25, 2023 @ 12:01am
And yeah, since the thread is about CS2, then I am sure there is no such problem with VAC or people would report about it like with W7 issue and so on.
Most likely the RGB stuff is just blocked by trusted launch, like RTSS, overlays, post-processing stuff and so on.

But in case of other games you just install it and check the options it does contain, probably it doesn't even have the stuff for games like reacting on HP and so on (many devices don't). But if it does, you just turn it off and you're safe. Though if you're not sure I suggest to read the official documentation to your software.

if you are sure that those gaming functions will never turn on on their own (or with an update, just like Windows Defender is turned back on if it's off every Windows update), and if you are sure that it won't do any other sort of shady stuff, then it's totally fine to keep using it as it doesn't interfere neither with the game nor with the anti-cheat in any way (at least I hope so :D)
