Is using an overlay crosshair cheating?
Just wondering, I currently don't

Very good question. However, i don't think we can answer it correctly without also asking how we can reconcile the fundamental principles of quantum mechanics and general relativity to develop a comprehensive theory of quantum gravity, while addressing unresolved issues such as the nature of dark matter and dark energy, achieving a Grand Unified Theory, and clarifying the interpretation of quantum mechanics in the quest for a more complete understanding of the universe?

Anything modifying the game giving you an unfair advantage is considered cheating. Better just put some bubblegum in the center of the screen if you want to do no scopes.
with how easy it is to do such things I really don't understand why "Show crosshair with snipers" isn't an option turned off by default yet (since yes, it has to be intuitive for new players that they really shouldn't shoot like that)

and I would really like to use a custom PNG crosshair… I'm totally fine with it not displaying for others, not showing recoil, etc, I loved my crosshair overlay a lot when I was on windows 7 and could do it without added input latency

Its not technically a modification of game.

could also be done as a modification, there's software on Steam called "HudSight" which does exactly that, it has to inject its dll into the game just to draw a crosshair

No
almost every "gaming" monitor has a crosshair overlay
and even without that
it didn't stop people from drawing one on their monitor with a sharpie back in the days of source.

i wouldnt recommend using anything, VAC LIVE is very strict.
altho my monitor has built-in crosshair feature and obviously that's undetectable, but it looks hidious :/

I doubt. And honestly valve should just add a crosshair for sniper rifles so this is a baseline for everyone.

That would certainly take away the cool factor of seeing no-scopes in games and highlights though.

Of course it's cheating, what a silly question. I would get a lot more kills with the SCAR-20 if I put a bit a of bluetack in the middle of the screen but then I wouldn't get the rush from a scopeless headshot.

No sniper is 100% on point from hip
That doesn't matter.

Does your crosshair overlay interact with the game at all? If you run it without the game running, does it show the crosshair in the middle of your screen?

If it's not injecting itself into the process and it's not reading any data from the process, it should be fine to run, just like it would be fine to put a piece of clear plastic film over your monitor with a crosshair drawn on it.

Beside that most have some sort of assistance it is RNG anyway because noscopes and quickscopes are not accurate. So they are not that cool. In 1.6 is was 100% acccurate and was cool.

Same, thats why I dont use it ..

I would use it and then remove the ingame crosshair, if my screen came with a Dot I could set the size on myself and the colors i want !

But that my screen dont support, so i use the ingame crosshair wich is just a small Dot, nearly 25 years i have been played with that now ..

You always talk from things from the past which are wrong. CS 1.6 and the previous titles had no dot crosshair, right?
