Linux Persistent Performance issues
I know, another post about this. I have tried everything under the sun and the performance improved but is still underwhelming.

I have a dual boot setup and on Windows 10 CS2 runs amazingly well, maximum settings, way above 144 FPS all the time. No stutters, no FPS drop, nothing, runs like a dream.
On Linux I was getting like 30 FPS and stutters and tried lots of things, what really provided some improvement was adding the following commands to launch options:
-autoconfig -dxvk -nojoy -vulkan -high

I noticed I couldn't barely feel any warm air coming from my water cooler so clearly my CPU wasn't delivering everything it's capable of, very different from Windows which during CS2 I can feel a very warm air coming out of it. So I changed the governor to provide "performance" instead of "on demand" CPU power and it also helped a bit more.
Now it is almost playable using HIGH settings. I'm getting somewhere around 120, 130 fps with some drops during action/smoke/fire. With VERY HIGH settings FPS drops too much and is not really playable. And again, Windows performance for this game is flawless on VERY HIGH settings.

Other things I've also tried:

- Installing gamemode and running steam via it- Running CS2 with Steam compatibility option Proton. This seems to be the best performance of all methods I tried.
- Installing Windows Steam via Lutris but no difference, performance is the same as the native version.

My system is:
Ryzen 9 5900X
Radeon RX 6750 XT 12GB (Asus Dual OC edition)
MSI B550 Gaming Plus mobo
16GB DDR4 3200 Kingston Fury
Western Digital black NVME 500GB (gen 3)
Dell gaming monitor, 165hz, 1440, connected via Display Port
Xubuntu 20.04

No clue what could be the next step, I have read several threads where people are complaining about severe performance issues of CS2 on Linux and it looked like this game needed some optimization, which I am not sure if it was done already by Valve or not. I checked all release notes and the only mention of Linux is from November "Linux clients can now run workshop maps without requiring -insecure".

Are you guys still experiencing performance issues? Any other thing I could try to bring performance where it should be?

Thanks!

Ubuntu 20.04 is pretty old. I get pretty much identical FPS under Arch Linux compared to Win 11. Ryzen 7735HS/RX7600S.

EDIT: just tried with -vulkan, now gets better FPS in Linux (160-200 compared to 120-150 in Win 11). Try a distribution with newer kernel/Mesa/Vulkan.

Thanks for your answer! Well, yes but it is still LTS, so it get all updates. I did try some time ago 22.04 and there was no difference. Vulkan/Mesa/AMD GPU drivers are all updated

That means nothing for an LTS distribution, especially with an older kernel (which includes the amdgpu drivers).

Try Arch instead. It's the best for gaming because it uses the latest packages. Just don't bother with Manjaro or any of the derivatives, they're all ♥♥♥♥♥.
