I just got the same mouse and it was working fine until I installed the driver software supplied by RedDragon themselves, the driver installs another program which allows you to bind actions to certain buttons this however blocks the capability of using the side buttons as game buttons.
If you're on Windows then open the start menu search "Programs and Features" or go there via the Control Panel, at the top there should be software labeled "5-Button Mouse", if it isn't at the top then search for it in the search bar to the top right. Once you find it, uninstall it and choose to restart manually when it asks to close applications. After it's done uninstalling you don't even have to restart for the buttons to work with games again :)
