CS:GO Screen flickering issue during menuing as well as in game
I'm having an issue and I'm looking for answers. When in CS:GO menu to choose a game (play, community servers, etc) AND in game on *any* map I am experiencing flickering. For a fraction of a second will be white or black (always horizontal) box will be drawn on the screen, it's often an inch or 1/2 inch "block" that appears, stretching across the entire screen. It will flicker very fast almost as if a menu or something was trying to open for just a fraction of a second. This happens regardless of what's happening on the screen and there's no one thing I can do to reproduce it, but it is reliably reproducible. It happens in every single game session.

Rough system specs:
Windows 10
Asus Sabertooth Z97 Mark 2 motherboard
1200 W Thermaltake PSU
Intel i7 4770K 3.5 GHz processor (not overclocked)
Patriot 8 GB DDR3 RAM (x4)
XFX AMD Radeon R9 Fury X GPU (not overclocked)
BenQ XL2430T monitor
BenQ monitor settings: In-game display profile: "CS GO", 1080 x 1920 resolution, 144 Hz

This is the troubleshooting I've done thus far, NOTHING has resolved the issue:

- I've tried reinstalling and updating to BenQ's most recent display pilot software, v2.22
- I've tried rolling back, reinstalling, and updating to the most recent GPU drivers for my R9 Fury X GPU
- I've tried updating my motherboard's BIOS
- I've tried using several different display port cables, and HDMI, to no effect
- The issue occurs on ANY display profile setting (I have not set up a custom profile configuration, but all of the FPS defaults that I've used (FPS1, FPS2, CSGO etc) experience the issue.)
- I've tried to reproduce this problem in other games (specifically Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Seige and Arma III) and the issue does not occur, in fact the monitor preforms beautifully in that game!
- I tried Verifying the game cache, and went so far as to reinstall the game, this did not resolve the issue.
- I noticed that the issue happens in other Source engine games, I can reproduce the problem in TF2, it's exactly the same.
- The issue occurs on other monitors (I tried to reproduce the problem on my Asus VS247H 60 Hz monitor and I can reproduce the problem). I can also reproduce the problem on the BenQ monitor running at 60, 120 and 144 Hz
- There is no change I can make on my graphics card's settings to resolve the issue in the AMD Radeon Control Panel settings
- Enabling V-Sync via in-game CS:GO settings fixes the issue! This leads me to believe it's something related to frame buffering, I -really- don't want to use V-sync, so I need this fixed!
- Running csgo.exe in Compatability mode for Windows 8 resolves the issue, but the problem with doing this is that there's definitely a performance drop when running it like this...

Here's a video of the issue: https://youtu.be/cb6p6hDGgF4 (it happens twice, once at :57 and again at around 1:24)

Is anyone else experiencing this? Anyone have any ideas how to fix it? I've tried about everything I can think of.

I have never had driver issues with nVidia. But that is beside the point here.

1. Update your graphics driver (do what Ankarin suggested).
2. Make sure your hardware (e.g., your graphics card) isn't overheating.

The GPU is always running very cool (the AMD Radeon R9 Fury X actually comes with a water cooler and a radiator, it's a pretty efficient little card)

I've tried what Ankarin suggested and unfortunately the problems persisted.

I just tried updating Intel drivers, no luck

Looking at messing with the AMD settings and looking on their forums now... Yikes. Trying one thing at a time...

Last thing you can try is put in your Nvidia GPU and if it goes away after a proper reinstall of drivers then something must not be right with the fury x and just get a replacement.

That flickering looks like tearing. I don't know about how to configure Radeon graphics cards, but this is what you can do with nVidia (maybe you will find similar settings for your card?):

<quoting myself>

Adjust the 3D settings for CS:GO in your nVidia Control Panel:
Antialiasing - Gamma Correction > Off Antialiasing - Transparency > Off Multi-display/mixed-GPU acceleration > Single display performance mode Power management mode > Prefer maximum performance Texture filtering - Anisotripic sample optimization > On Texture filtering - Negative LOD bias > Clamp Texture filtering - Quality > High performance Texture filtering - Trilinear optimization > On Threaded optimization > On Triple buffering > On Vertical sync > Use the 3D application setting

If that alone doesn't help, try adding some launch options to CS:GO (Right-click > Properties > Set Launch Options...):
-novid -high -nojoy +mat_queue_mode 2 +mat_vignette_enable 0 +cl_forcepreload 1

Yeah, you're right, but I'm not sure how good a use of time that'll be since I am 99% certain that the other GPU didn't have any issues for the ~2 years I was using it and playing CS:GO, even after updating to Windows 10. I also played the game a little bit after the most recent Operation update, and I didn't notice this problem. Leads me to believe it's a software issue, not hardware. If it were a hardware issue other games would be hosed. I do not think it's a coincidence I have this problem in other source games (TF2, specifically. I can't reproduce the problem in L4D2, but I believe that's because it's a different engine. I could be wrong, I'm no expert.)

Yep, that's exactly what I was thinking when I first noticed it on the new card... I was thinking that it was a problem with screen tearing, and that seems to be somewhat true because the issue goes away when I enable Triple buffering (VSync) from within CS:GO's video display options. Obviously, I don't want to play the game with Vsync on, because that makes me pretty useless for competitive play. It's what makes me want to try a Freesync monitor, but I'm so confused by the fact that I don't have issues in other game engines.

The AMD utility that's similar to the nVidia control panel is called "CCC" and it has similar configurations, but they don't have any impact on this problem, even when enabling Vsync from within the AMD utility. It's interesting to me that only enabling it in-game fixes the problem.

I tried your launch options to no avail, I like to keep my launch options simple, here are mine

-novid -high -threads 4 -nojoy +cl_forcepreload 1 -nosounds -nod3d9ex

Well, I'm beside myself now. Upgrading to a BenQ XL2730Z monitor sseems to have done the trick... I have no idea why I was seeing it on other monitors, but it doesn't happen on the upgraded model, with FreeSync turned off no less.

:/ technology sucks

If anyone will look for the solution in the future i've found it!. Was struggling to get rid of the flickering screen after recent w10 update so the solution is:

Find the Steam folder on your computer and open it then go STEAMAPPS/COMMON/COUNTER-STRIKE GLOBAL OFFENSIVE/csgo.exe ->right mouse click and properties then compatibility tab and check the option at the bottom Disable fullscreen optimalisation apply and that's it - no more flickering mentioned above... Hope that helps someone. Cheers.
help me please
i always have this bug

For me, it is the opposite - unticking it fixed the flickering. Weirdo!

Turning off MSAA Worked for me.
I'm having the same issue in 2021, but a lot more flickering than shown in the video.
Its the same type of flickering, always horizontal, but a lot more frequent.
PC Specs:
- CPU: Intel I7-9700K 4.7GHz
- GPU: AMD Radeon 5700 XT (8GB)
- RAM: Corsair 16GB DDR4 3200mhz
- Motherboard: ASRock (Intel Chipset)
- PSU: 600W
- SSD: 1x SSD M.2 500gb
- HHD: 1x Storage (2TB Seagate)

Things I've done to try and resolve the issue:
- Updating Graphics Drivers
- Re-Sitting GPU
- Re-Installing CS:GO
- Verifying Integrity of Local Game Files
- Enabling "Disable Full Screen Optimizations"
- Updating Windows

This only happens in CS:GO.
