New Player Experience
Honestly? I really tried to get into this game and gave it a good 70 hours before reviewing. I've never played before and joined CS2 to try it out (I think it was called Counter Strike Go before?).

From my perspective as a new player:

Either everyone is hacking or the game has just been around too long for anyone new to join. Move round a corner? Instant headshot.
Bought full helmet and armour + a nice assault rifle. Instant Pistol headshot and i'm dead as above.
Ok, play safe, I hold an angle or two and wait for the enemy. BANG shot in the head from behind or naded, incendiaried etc.

I just cannot see how this game is as popular as it is, unless as above the majority of people are hacking so they know where you are/get instant headshots or it's just a case of 3000 Hours+ means no new player can do anything to you and it's an impossible game.

As for matchmaking, which I had hoped would drastically improve my experience after being ranked at silver 1 (the lowest rank i believe, which makes sense for a genuinely brand new player), it is honestly atrocious.
Each game has at least 1 person that goes 25-2 or higher and decimates our team. This has been the absolute norm for me. Whilst I admit we often have at least one on my team that does far better than anyone else on the team; fighting against a guy going 25-2 or better as a new player is soul crushing and frankly, extremely irritating. There is no way to kill them since as soon as you see them you are headshot and INSTANTLY DEAD.

Why aren't I being matched with OTHER new players??

TL;DR:
New player experience is so bad I'm convinced people are hacking headshots or something. Literally can't move around the map without instantly dying.

OLD PLAYER EXPERIENCE. This game is so broken it makes call of duty look epic, and that game is more broken then this one. Rubber band, stutter, fps drop, i die behind a wall, full of cheaters, very nice experience for me as well. This is valve

That’s literally how it is in any online fps game. Did you expect to be in the top 1% after playing for a whopping 70 hours? There’re many many players with 10k+ hours so your 70 hours make your complaint invalid in every way.

If dying more than you kill is demotivational to you- then you’re not a dedicated player and are free to leave. It takes time to git gud, unsurprisingly. A couple hundred more hours and you’ll start being somewhat consistent with the kills.

While there are cheaters, they’re definitely a minority, so it’s just more skilled players all around you.

Valorant is better

stick to casual for a while (if you're not already doing that) and keep learning. you can't expect to be as good as everyone else instantly, can you? you caught a bad time for matchmaking because right now people are ranked across the board no matter their previous level of skill, give the elo system some time to place everyone properly and it'll improve

What you perceive as "hacking" is in fact skill most of the time.

You’re playing a 2023 version of a game that was played before YouTube or the IPhone was invented, obviously you’re gonna encounter players that feels unreal to you, that’s because they’ve played for an entire life a game that fundamentally haven’t changed.

And since you’re probably used to modern FPS like COD, the gap is even bigger for players like you, you’re entering a completely different world.

70 hours is nothing. Get some hundrets more and at least a decent rank like gold nova. As silver 1 everyone is cheating for you because you can't get worst. Maybe you have enemies with cheats but not every match.

Never claimed to expect to be in the 1%, never claimed a negative KDA was an issue. It's the case of being unable to get barely 2 kills in an entire match. Very different things
Best option is learing! Deathmatches for aim and fast reaktion and normal games for positioning and teamplay. But you must give it time. Furthermore the game is not balanced now. There will be updates (I hope more recoil for AK, shotguns are now at distance better than AWP) Not even I try to rank because it is to chotic.
For all new players no offense but CS2 is not a pony farm.

"I just cannot see how this game is as popular as it is" maybe you're just not a competitive person. This franchise existed for 20+ years with little change to the meta. Of course people are gonna perfect it and take every game seriously. You could play with bots as I did back in 2014 since I had little interest in multiplayer back then, but when I discovered pro players and tournaments all of a sudden I wanted to dominate every match I played. It takes time to adjust in this competitive environment but you could get Integrated in it if you want to

it's just bad timing, really. people on 2k elo are as good as people on 10k elo it doesn't matter right now. if I were new I'd stick to casual for a bit until ratings even out

That’s how it was for me for the first couple days. I’d be happy to have like a 5-20 k/d by the end of a casual game. And it just got better and better since then so just gotta live through the ‘being bad’ part of the game.

But this is an entirely new game, right..? It's CS 2? Or is it just a re-skin of a really old game??

Same csgo just on a new engine. Physics have changed, but in a nutshell it’s the same game. Takes maybe a couple days to get used to the changes and, considering, some people did get the beta several months ago, they’ve had more than enough time to get used to the new engine.

quite the contrary, in fact. it is extremely similar to its predecessor csgo.
