My refresh rate is capped at 60Hz when playing in 4:3 aspect ratio, please help
I have recently started playing CS2 (I played CSGO), and I was changing my settings and I have noticed that when I changed my aspect ratio to the one i normally use, 4:3, my refresh rate couldn't go any higher than 60Hz (On a 165Hz monitor). On 16:9 aspect ratio I did not have this issue, while i could just change to 16:9, I would much rather keep the settings that I am used to and a higher aspect ratio for performance reasons. Does anyone know a way to fix this problem?

There is no way to fix this currently as cs2 is a fundamentally bad port of an existing game.

If you have an nVidia card go into the nVidia control panel and create a custom resolution.
Select your desired refresh rate, apply and save.
Boot up CS2, select the resolution you created and you should be able to adjust the refresh rate in CS2.

Did you create a custom res and maybe you have not set it to 165 hz in NVIDIA control panel
i have read it can be driver related and if so use DDU to uninstall your display drivers and do a fresh install .

But i have not used 4:3 in cs2 as native feels better for me , maybe the game wont allow it , wouldn't surprise me at this point .

in the folder "X:\Steam\userdata\your number\730\local\cfg"

Open the file "cs2_video.txt" with an editor and change the value behind "setting.refreshrate_numerator" Let us know if it works.

this didnt work for me at all
Hi im also having this issue. Ive got a 60hz monitor overclocked to 75hz (just a custom res) and I also play 4:3 streched. My game is stuck at 60hz and i cant change it in the settings. Ive tried the video settings file and setting it as a launch option as well as different resolutions.

You have to create a custom resolution on your Nvidia/AMD control panel and then restart the game and look for the resolution you created and set the new refresh rate

it sounds like you have wrong understanding of what aspect ratio is and what it does.

aspect ratio does NOT change performance, you're confusing it with resolution.
you can have 4:3 vs 16:9 and have same amount of pixels on screen, which means both take exactly same amount of GPU power to render, therefore no performance change.

aspect ratio DOES stretch your image, can't you tell that 4:3 on 16:9 is stretched? i don't know why developers even allow changing to wrong aspect ratio.

having wrong aspect ratio, can also cause wrong refresh rate to be shown or maybe because your monitor only supports 60hz on 4:3.
you said it yourself, that you didn't have this with 16:9.

calculate total amount of pixels that you have in 4:3 and then use 16:9 aspect ratio with resolution that has equal amount of pixels, this way it will have exactly same performance, but you can set it to 165.

pretty old post but to the folks that are still trying to find the solution, what worked for me is (only for nvidia cards):
open nvidia control panel
go to adjust desktop size and position
choose the monitor u run cs2 on
choose scaling
then perform scaling on: GPU
Guys alright, problem got solved when i did some research and found a software called "CRU". I downloaded it and I was able to increase it from 60hz to 74hz in the resolution settings. (YOU NEED TO RESTART THE COMPUTER AFTER ADJUSTING THE FRAME RATE OF THE RESOLUTIONS).

the last nvidia update made this so you just have to roll back to last one work on your system
^^^ this
latest nvidia driver update got me capped to 75hz aswell, downgrading the driver to one version prior (from june) did the trick

Go into your graphic card, then setup a 165 hz profil on it and then relaunch the game and you should be able to run the game in 165 hz if your screen support it!

Just set V-sync off and you can run 8000 fps if your graphic card can manage it
