may i ask what tools did you use to determine that its the "game" lagging and not your connection?
what is your ping to google and youtube? does it have any timeouts? is it constant or does it fluctuate?
you can play fine on wifi if you have proper equipment (not some built-in wifi or usb dongle without antenna), but problem with hotspot is that you're not only one using it, others can hog the bandwidth.
and general issue with wifi is that there's interference, someone can turn on microwave and wifi signal drops a lot. 5ghz doesn't have those issues, but 5ghz range is very short. you'll struggle getting even 10 meters out of 5ghz in urban environment.
