performance in csgo came down to how many frames can your cpu throw at your gpu which by 2023 you could reach 1000fps
source 2 has gone through many improvements and overhauls since 2015's dota 2 reborn update it really wasnt even fully complete back then. i'd say half life alyx was the first real showing of what it could do.
Source 2 now splits the performance between your gpu and cpu meaning you now actually need a good dedicated gpu to hit those super high framerates again.
you take a bit of a performance hit pure framerate wise but now you get a bunch of benefits from not being super cpu bound anymore.
one of them being the new sound engine.
Although this doesn't mean the game is without it's flaws. I do believe they have to fix the game not using multiple cores and also improve general performance. But not in terms of fps, more in terms of eliminating any delay.
Older hardware I would consider is when someone told me they play CSGO on a GT610. That's ancient hardware. They really need to upgrade. But a 1060 + 1600 should be giving you about 70-100 fps in casual and 120-140 in MM i'm sure.... if not. then that is very surprising.
