Petition: Bring back CSGO
Please don't get me wrong. I want to make it clear that I'm not suggesting at all that we abandon CS2 and return to playing CSGO. I fully accept and embrace the idea of change for better future.

But my request is simple: I'd like CSGO to continue to exist as a separate entity in my library and this probably means assigning a separate appID to CSGO to preserve our extensive statistics of many years and the hard-earned Steam achievements. The motivation behind this request is to protect our gaming history for the sake of integrity and preservation of history. IMHO, Valve's decision to abruptly remove their own game, erasing a significant portion of our shared gaming history, appears to be a disservice to their own legacy. Not to mention that this action also disrespects the fans and gamers who rely on Steam as their gaming platform.

It's worth noting that, right this moment CS2 lacks certain content previously available in CSGO. There's an urgent need to add these missing elements, including currently unavailable maps to CS2. While time may eventually resolve this issue, I'm willing to be patient as we await the migration of CSGO's content to CS2.

To reiterate, our community wholeheartedly embraces CS2 and welcomes changes that enhance our gaming experience. However, we earnestly request that CSGO be retained as a testament to our gaming history.

ꀤ❤️
CS2

For those who share our sentiments, we invite you to express your support by simply typing "F." This gesture marks your respect for our beloved CSGO and at the same time celebrates the rise of CS2 as our new leader. Your cooperation is highly appreciated.

Fully accessible? Oh I didn't notice that I could still access Valve official servers in the CS:GO legacy branch! Oh wait... I can't. I think you'd also find that "Counter-Strike: Global Offensive" in no longer in my Steam library when I search for it, instead a game called "Counter-Strike 2" is there. Please stop bootlicking and actually use your brain for once, acknowledge this clear disregard for game preservation by Valve and that they used CS:GO reviews to make the CS2 release look like was received better than it was.

There was no valid reason for not releasing CS2 on a separate Steam app ID and leaving CS:GO as it was, the closest reason, skins, is still not valid when you consider that Valve developed the Steam inventory system and could work out how to move all inventories to a new app ID but decided not to because it would cost them time and money, money that was given to them by the CS:GO community to first buy the game and then to buy skins, so they should be listening to our inputs as our money shaped this game. I'm a fan of Valve but we need to call them out when they start doing anti-consumer behaviour like this since the gaming communities call out EA, Blizzard and Ubisoft when they do it, especially Blizzard since they received massive backlash for replacing Overwatch with Overwatch 2 but Valve seem to be immune to backlash for some reason.

Also Renos, on page 46, when I corrected your reply to me where you suggested that I told Valve to 'duplicate' the skin database, when I said 'move', you never responded to that which leads me to think you don't respond after being proven wrong, guess we'll see if that is the case for this comment.
still applies
you would be copying over a large database to another server
which is prone to who knows how many errors.
better off to just assign cs2 the same appID
especially since cs2 also uses csgo's entire server backend on steam.
from the match coordinator and player stats to the community server master list.

and from a preservation standpoint
i can still download csgo
can still play everything that was added to the game and all community content.
only thing not there are valve's own official servers but that's been the case for every previous CS title. I would not even consider that content or even qualified for preservation. And that has been how the industry as a whole works. At least valve is nice enough to leave us with the server files to host our own stuff. and given how talented the CS community is who knows maybe in the future we just come up with our own MM service for GO.
I appreciate this response as it shows you're not a troll like previous responses made me think and actually know what you're talking about even if we may disagree here. Of course neither of us know how Steam's inventory servers are designed but looking at the Steamworks documentation we can see how inventory items are individually designed, every item definition has an "appid" property which links it to that specific app ID inventory and if changed will update existing items in user inventories as well so by design, it seems like Valve prepared allowing developers to change the "appid" value of an item in case a developer wanted to move all of their items to a new app ID and by their own admission, seems like it would work seamlessly so why Valve decided not to use it for the release of CS2 on a new app ID is baffling to me.

I agree that it's great that CS:GO is even still accessible at all and leaving the dedicated server files available is better than other developers do but you have to remember that 1.6/CZ/Source never had any official Valve servers to be removed so this is still setting a bad precedent for other Valve games like TF2 when new TF games release in the future. Also how will the planned CS2 map workshop work now? Seems like it will be a visual mess if it will feature both CS:GO and CS2 maps which wouldn't have been an issue with a separate workshop on a new app ID, maybe Valve are planning to wipe the CS:GO workshop to start again for CS2, which will be a big blow to CS:GO community content and would again make CS:GO players angry. This is why I still believe moving to a new app ID would have been the best solution to keep everyone happy and in the long run make less work for Valve. You're definitely right about how talented the CS community is, I wouldn't be surprised if a modded MM service for CS:GO was made, that would be great to see!
