Yesterday I had more than 4000 achievements in total.
I am just glad I found the reason why I no longer have more than 4000.
I'm sure valve thought about that but found no good solution. Maybe they will do something about it in the future.
But honestly achivements for CS mean nothing. They never were important and more than 95% of them were extremely easy obtainable anyway and the others were just either silly infinite grind or people used server commands or workshopmaps and got it that way. I also had all on my main and nearly all on other accs.
CS always was a game which focused on the game itself. No silly grind like most games do nowadays.
Take WoW for an example. People before achivements just played the game. They dueled every day for fun. Went into dungeons for fun. Only grind was rank 14. With classic rerelease and now hardcore classic people also enjoy the game as it is again. But retail WoW? Since WotLk all people care about are achivements. People need at least 25.000 hours of efficient playtime to achive all and only a hand full has all. If someone argues with you it isn't about your experience or skill but people put you down when you've less achivementpoints. It's really sad to see where the game went. And many other games are the same. What are you doing in assassins creed? Opening all stuff, finding all stuff. Not because you've fun searching everything. You even see the marker on the map and just run from a to b because you have to. People do it for silly achivements.
Achivements are the easiest possible way to keep people playing their game. And achivements mean you can reduce the quality of the game itself. Game doesn't make fun? Just implement an achivement where you need to fish 1000 fish which takes 50 hours and you know a lot will do it.
So yeah. Achivements are bad game for the quality of the game and for the happyness of player. You think you're happy by doing achivements. But you aren't. You're happy that you finished something you didn't want to do.
