i doubt valve would just erase thousands of community made gamemodes maps skins etc.
There won't be official CSGO servers anymore. Also there won't be official ways to play CSGO (only with modded CS2 client, like with Dota2 updated to Dota 2 Reborn with Source 2).
Yeah, not sure where you heard that since Valve themselves literally said a few times that CS2 will replace CS:GO. So when CS2 is officially launched, it's an update that will kill CS:GO forever. They also have that on their bio on Twitter/X.
Same/Similar story as with the "Orange Box" Update for the Source Engine back in the days.

Well RIP CSGO. I wish they would at least allow some way for us to still be able to play it. I think its a horrible business move on their end killing off CSGO just for CS2. Guess ill spend as much time as I can play CSGO until its gone
Yeah, I wish they did that as well but I get why. Probably more on the behind-the-scene tech stuff to ensure everyone's skins/inventory successfully migrate over to CS2. Last thing anyone wants is for CS2 to be completely built from the ground up and you can't bring anything over. LoL it's a billion dollar industry for Valve so I see why they went this route.
There should always be one version of the game.
Another excellent point! I remember when everyone was on CS:S and CS:GO came out and it was literally a civil war with everyone hating having to pick. Some stayed loyal to CS:S saying CS:GO was terrible and many left because at the time, CS:GO looked a lot better and finally had its own matchmaking.
I mean that does make sense, but I still dont like it lol. It just feels like what Valve is doing is very very similar to what Overwatch did for Overwatch 2, and that ruined the game forever. Obviously, this isnt gonna kill CS because they have a much more loyal following for this game then any other ive ever played. I just would like to be able to play CSGO, I love the dark and grittiness of it. It was also one of the games that got me into pc gaming, and now Im not gonna be able to enjoy that memory anymore
Understandable but this is eerily familiar when CS:GO first came out and everyone hated it. Over time, people saw it was significantly better, played better, better graphics, and the in-game matchmaking was incredible. I know at first CS2 will be hated and people will definitely complain but I'm confident over time, people will also love it just like the whole CS:S -> CS:GO transition over a decade ago.
Change is good. I'm excited to see the next new era of Counter-Strike and one that appeals to younger players too. LoL I've yet to play the beta and am hoping CS2 drops next week if not sooner!
