CS2 community server setup
Hi

I was looking into hosting a CS2 community server using a cloud server using Amazon Web Server. I tried to setup a private community server on a cloud server, but did not have any success setting one up. The server I tried to host on is a Windows Server OS 2012.

These are the two guides I follow when setting up a community server from scratch:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1ZrEn0CiMi4&ab_channel=TroubleChute

https://developer.valvesoftware.com/wiki/Counter-Strike_2/Dedicated_Servers

I have tried to follow this specific guide I have found on Youtube, but did not have any success getting one working as intended. Every time I run a .bat folder, the server would always crash. My speculation on what lead to the crashed has something to do with the application requiring a Dummy Steam account.

When I say dummy Steam account, that means I cannot run the game server using my own Steam account. If I were to do that, this will cause the sever to crash. Likely because I'm already login to my Steam account. There also the possibility I might have screw up the .bat startup command.

Disclaimer, I have hosted dedicated game servers before (Rising Storm 2, Day Of Infamy, Star Wars: Jedi Academy). While most of the documentation I read on the web are well preserved, hosting a dedicated server for CS2 is very limited at the moment. That makes trying to set a server up very peachy. I really hope Valve would improve the community server support. Give us the option to run a .bat server files using the Anonymous and will NOT require a dummy Steam account.

That said, if anyone happens to successfully run a Community sever using these follow guides I have posted. Let me know, I'll have a look.

I had CS:GO dedicated (Windows server) working fine, and used my Steam account on the startup/command without issue. I've setup CS2 for dedicated, basically exactly same methods, following their guidelines, and the executable crashes after about 10 seconds. Wish they'd offer some support on this as well, as it doesn't log why it fails, and I literally have it running vanilla per their guide

Based on what I know, it requires the Steam client to order to run a game server. It could have been a separate server build, okey. Man, so much as change since it started out as a heavily modified build for Quake.

steam is no longer supporting windows server 2012, update your windows server version to modern one, you can host server with cs2 sdk and steamcmd.
