Can't purchase cases off the market
I keep getting a message saying that "You cannot purchase thjis item because buying this type of item is disabled in your country", but I've never heard of France pushing against lootboxes. Is there something I've missed, or is this a bug ?

france banned gambling so there is no way you can buy cases, you can get them by drops ingame and use XRAY to preview what is in it (valve solution) . your best bet is to go on ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ or bitskins or anny trading site (be aware that it must be legit) and buy there cases and get them from a bot or a user selling them on website by trading function :)

Did you live under the stone for the last 3,5 years? France pushed against lootboxes in 2019.

Yeah, saw that afterwards. Haven't heard any news about this until now, although tbh, media doesn't talk much about video games, if ever.

And I don't really trust myself going to those csgo websites. Most of them are scams, so it's a coin toss to figure out which one is safe and which one isn't.
But yeah, the XRAY scan is a loophole they're using, although I'm not a fan of it.

bitskins is trusted, just check the reddit trading sub to see which are & which aren't
