Case drops for free players

Sorry in advance for the noob question. I and my friend started the game last week around the same time. We are both free players. We haven't paid for the premium. The thing is he said he got a case yesterday. Today at the end of a bout, the drop tab was open, I was entitled to a case but it said "Upgrade it to premium to get the item drop". Is something wrong with my game or is my friend pulling my leg and he hasn't got any cases?

In some cases (no pun intended), it will show a drop in game but it actually doesn't go into the inventory. It waits for the account to get Prime to get the drops into the inventory retroactively.

No. In order to receive weekly weapon case and graffiti drops you must have Prime Status.

Only prime accounts can get drops.

Without Prime you don't get case drops. And after buying Prime you WON'T get the drops from the time before getting Prime.

OK. Resolution. It turns out to be that one of my friends got to level 21 and was entitled to a Prime account. It was the case before 2021, but they have changed it in 2021 and it is not possible now. The other friend didn't actually start last week with me. He bought the Prime game in 2015 and forgot about it. So in the end, as some people mentioned here, free players don't get case drops. Sorry for taking your time.
