It's like, "look, Valve made a new buy menu, of course it is to help hackers".
Ranks are hidden to avoid dismorale when, for example, low ranked player is matched with higher ranked player, so he won't think "what is this, I won't play it, GGWP I'm gonna be AFK" and so on.
Also, ranks are removed from practically EVERY competitive game and not shown until the end. Helps people focus and not get psyched out. Some people might see a higher rank and perform poorly thinking it's already hopeless.
