Weplay scam

So, i was looking to play some games earlier. with the random player search.
I got invited by 2 people who's name i can't say because of steam tos ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥

we got on discord and they were asking if i wanted to play on intern. I was down.
then got invited to a discord server called "weplay - twitch"

they told me i should verify and so i was trying to.
On the discord it links you to "Weplays.de" and not "weplay.tv"

It sends you to a false steam log in phishing site.
I was stupid enough to log in, but managed to do all security things in time. changed password, steam guard and email password.

It's scary how convincing it was, they have people in the active voice channels who are bots and also thousands of members as well as server boosts.
The guy leading me to the discord had a twitch stream with 160 viewers and 25k followers.
All bots.

1. why do you click on things without checking the link first?
this is FIRST thing i ever check, i never click on anything without checking the domain, you can do domain whois in just a minute and make sure it's legit domain.

2. you said it, it was stupid thing to do!

3. only kids and scammers use discord.

4. 0% convincing to me, because of the URL. it's very obvious fake/scam.

5. bot viewers / comments / followers is common thing, internet basically runs on bots these days and scammers just take advantage of it. lot of famous youtubers also used bots to boost their accounts.

when i first heard about those scam methods maybe like 10 years ago, i thought it was all fake news, because i didn't think anyone is stupid enough to click on obviously fake links that can easily be verified as fake .. but most nowday people have awareness of a squirrel, they won't even notice when someone steals their underwear that they are currently wearing.

I guess I was convinced by big numbers, and people being in the voice channels for interns, I didn't take any screenshots or so.

What are you being so unnecessarily rude for?

It's better warning people before someone does fall for it. And if the discussion is often at the top of the discussions I would say it's a good thing?

got scammed as well. never got scammed but this was pretty well done. wanted to trade to my brother and they dublicated his account and changed the trade offer instantly, im very angry about myself but i can't change it.

the thing that makes me more angry is, that this seems to be well known and steam won't rollback the trade right? this is definitely a pretty good organized scam.

They are very indeed still active, got invited today to 2 players that wanted to talk in discord, they sent me to a discord server that wanted me to verify ♥♥♥♥ , and all this while they where sweet talking, when it was time to verify I called the BS and blocked them

Omg i just got scammed with this method. Lost my 300€ knife :/
I logged in on their website through my Steam Guard app.

Do I need to change anything?

Is there any chance i get back my skin?

just make sure your API key is reset/deleted, else they can always just scam you again.... and your knife is probably lost

Same but I didn´t get scammed because I knew something was off when I was supposed to create an account just for a warmup match before a regular mm game. The idea of connecting to a shortmatch server by using the console was a red flag even earlier. No clue what files that private server contains. Im not connecting to a random server and I won´t create an account on a random site you provide.

was with them too in dc, but im very carefull with logging into other sites. One is calles shawtykilla with 20+premier rating. Watch out

More likely a consequence of defunding and dumbing down public education. Dumb people are easier to control.

The articles last week about how america's kids are dumber than ever really hit home for me.

An entire generation of little kids who are going to grow up with no ability to empathize or connect to others because everyone was forced to wear masks at critical points in their development.

Congrats on catching it in time. Rule of thumb though I'd just stick to using in-game mics with randoms even if you join to party up just in case. Until you trust them ofc.

Yea, sad to see that they've been doing it for months and valve does nothing against it.
Even with this thread appearing on the timeline of the discussions over and over again.
