Also, if you have a good headset with 5.1 sound, don't use them. They are meant for crappy stereo headsets.
I recommend these settings:
snd_front_headphone_position "90.0"
snd_rear_headphone_position "90.0"
snd_headphone_pan_exponent "1.0"
snd_headphone_pan_radial_weight "0.0"
snd_mixahead "0.05"
This is the most realistic setting, most of these values are default for a reason. With a good 5.1/7.1 headset that is using 5.1 sound (in Windows as well as in-game) you will get the best sound out of it.
plug and play
in the audio setups its 7.1 ♥♥♥♥ whith default things....
now ingame is headfones :|
some friend told me something like... didnt you hear that guy?... so i start exploring this sinse i have a good headset
those 4 is my question...xD so far...
Also, there is no point in putting 7.1 in the Windows Sound Settings when CS:GO can only emulate 5.1. Change both settings to 5.1, in Windows as well as in-game.
And use the settings I posted.
Problem solved.
tested ingame.....
i only have headfone
2 speakers
4 speakers
5.1 speakers
It does not. If you plug your headset into your soundcard's speakers output, you will get the most adequat sound in 5.1. Run the Windows sound test for 5.1 and you will see I am right:

Or is your headset USB only?
and in my workshop sound testing thing...
if i use headfones... it seems "good"
but if i change to 5.1 speaker the sound of a dude running in front of me seems closer... but if i turn my back on him he seems more distante
u have more options than this 4 ?
headfone
2 speakers
4 speakers
5.1 speakers
EDIT: In my own case (g633) The default is 9, I have my rears at 11 and my fronts at 8.

Of course it sounds different, it is supposed to sound different.
snd_front_headphone_position "xx.x"
snd_rear_headphone_position "90.0"
snd_headphone_pan_exponent "1.2"
snd_headphone_pan_radial_weight "0.5"
xx.x = 43.2 (5:4 resolution), 45.0 (4:3 resolution), 50.2 (16:10 resolution), or 53.2 (16:9 resolution)
saying this after testing in workshop "Audio test chamber"

seems acurate...
