Competitive needs more than 3 minutes to reconnect to a game.
So, it all started one day while I was playing CS:GO with a couple of friends. We had just finished a match on Dust II and beat the other team quite badly, so naturally we decided to play another game to see if we could go on some sort of a winning streak. While connecting into the game I hear the dreaded Windows error sound in the background. With it being my computer I already know that this means I have a memory issue. So, my game crashes and everybody is freaking out on me, and it honestly starts to freak me out as well. I opened Steam as fast as I could, BUT, my god, there was an update. The update takes about 30 seconds and I click launch on CS:GO as fast as I can. At this point I have about 1 and a half minutes left to reconnect so I'm really not worrying anymore, since my network can usually connect to matches moderately quick. I see the Valve logo pop up with the two Counter-Terrorists in the back and I see the worst message in my entire life. I've never even got this error before and I don't know what it really means but apparently with my luck I had to get it now. The pop-up said in a sense, "Valve-Anti-Cheat: Game launched in insecure mode." There were some other words there too but it was basically saying I couldn't join any VAC secure servers and would have to restart my game to do so. At this point my friends are freaking out even more, going crazy in the Skype call and semi-yelling at me. I clicked the 'X' as fast as I could to exit out of the game, and then clicked play on CS:GO equally as fast. I have about 30 seconds to get in the game at this point and to put it simply, things were not looking good for me and my friends and I knew it. The game launched up and this time I didn't get an error, my heart was literally racing when I clicked the yellow reconnect button. I thought I had saved the day, like I seriously thought I had gotten in. BUT NO. I was still intializing the game server while my friends counted down. 15. 14. 13. 12. 11. 10. 9. 8. 7. 6. 5. 4. 3. 2. 1. I froze. I felt like I had just won the lottery. I spawned into the game, but then, I went from the happiest feeling ever, to the worst. I looked in dread as my mouse didn't do anything. I spastically moved it all around my mouse pad in vain. It went back to the main menu, and, I looked at the top of my screen, 6 days, 23 hours, and 59 minutes. Literally, if I had 1 MINUTE MORE, SERIOUSLY 1 MINUTE MORE, I would've been in the game. I'm sure a lot of you guys agree with me. This pisses me off so much I can't even explain it. How do you expect people to get into a game with 3 minutes? 5 might even be too little, but 3 is just insane. Please, can we PLEASE get more than 3 minutes to get into a game. I'm tired of getting banned at the last moment because of a computer issue that, you guys will probably argue this, that I don't have control of. That's all, I just felt really strongly about this after experiencing it first-hand, but like I said that's all I have, goodbye.

3 minutes can mean up-to 5 rounds. I'd say that's a lot. 5 minutes is almost guaranteed to cost your team 5-6 rounds and as many as 8, even 9.

Competitive is for people with reliable PCs and connections. If you don't have a reliable PC or connection, play another game mode

I agree with you man, just something I wanted to share, maybe extended warmup reconnect time could be a thing? I don't know, it just sucks getting banned at the last second.

It sucks for one person. Having to play a whole game with a bot sucks for 4 people. Four people who have no control over the situation. You however do, you can make sure your gear is reliable or play another game mode

Usually it's 3 mins but sometimes in my games people would disconnect and it'll take forever for them to abandon it takes like 8 rounds then they're gone. Lmao

Yes, it does suck to play with a bot for a whole game, of course it does, but increasing the reconnect time doesn't have anything to do with playing with a bot. In, fact increasing the reconnect time would take away having to play with a bot the whole game completely. I honestly really don't know what you're trying to say there

Yes, it does suck to play with a bot for a whole game, of course it does, but increasing the reconnect time doesn't have anything to do with playing with a bot. In, fact increasing the reconnect time would take away having to play with a bot the whole game completely. I honestly really don't know what you're trying to say there

I'm trying to say that.
That's true, completely true, 5-6 rounds is bad, but playing with a bot for the whole game is worse and is basically a guaranteed loss. If you atleast give people the option to reconnect than a team would still have the chance of getting a NEEDED player back.

You do have the option to reconnect and a whole 3 minutes. If you need more than that, this is not the game mode for you.

Dude, that's what I'm getting at. You absolutely need more than three minutes. Anybody that has a sudden game crash simply can't get into a game in three minutes. And I know that you should have reliable gear before playing comp, but even with the most reliable gear a game crash could absolutely still happen.

It takes me less than one minute to restart my PC, get steam open and get back into the game.
