It was not so much about 4-5 years ago, but now it's a mainstream.
Battlefield V? Yes, every game is 10+ cheating dudes or at least if it's 32 vs 32 it may be half filled with 3rd part software users.
Call of Duty? Same story. PUBG? yep. Rainbow Six Siege? Sure.
Oh maybe Valorant? Nope, again software users.
It's useless to fight against windmills. It doesn't matter what AC will be coded and implemented, people will find a backdoor and bypass it. This is just a waste of money and resources, so that's why Valve is not making new AC, because as developers, they cleanly understand the current situation about games.
I call bs on this one. Many cheats exist because of sloppy developers and last minute coding crunches. As with CSGO, anticheat is most often an aftertought slapped onto spagetti code. If the gaming industry had the same zealotry as the media industry cheating would be pretty uncommon.
A trained AI with a sufficiently large pool of screened human players will have no problem seeing a cheater. The problem is that most games lack an identified group of non cheaters. Since the pool is totally poisoned by cheaters its hard to create a baseline to compare with. A pool exists with known cheaters (the large amount of banned accounts) but its not even possible to use the pro scene as a baseline since its also full of cheaters.
