How does the case system work in CS:GO
I meant the knife was in the case before and all you do is to open them ?

It'd be easier to have the skin generated when you open a case, than have one assigned to every single one of them. So yeah, most likely that.

it's like TF2 crates, you open them and you have a chance of getting whatever is listed on the crate contents, including the extremely rare item. however, unlike TF2, CSGO has a slot roll thingy system, where you can see the weapon being randomly selected for you. rarely will it land on a covert or knife, but most of the time, you'll be getting the mil-spec or restricted grade items

The second you press the button to upen the case, the skin is picked. You see that thing going through a bunch of items but they're all fake. Someone posted a video earlier.

He took the only knife gaben has ever put in a case then. They're all gone everyone, no worth opening cases.
The cases don't have any metadata attached to them to indicate what's inside. Opening one makes a call to Valve's server, which generates a random number and gives you an item based on that number.

Knives have ~0.5% chance of dropping, which means that to have a 99% chance of opening one, you'd have to open about 920 cases. And it'd probably be a $40 gut knife anyway.

If you want a knife, just buy one. The odds of even just making your money back on opening a case is incredibly low, even by regular casino gambling standards which are already ridiculously low.
