What is CS 1.6 (New to counter strike)

I've heard people talking about counter strike 1.6 and how it's awesome, but I have no idea what 1.6 is because I just bought global offensive a month ago. Any explanation is appreciated. Thanks!

1.6 came after 1.5 and before 1.5 got released there was 1.4.
1.6 is just the latest version of the original half life mod who got released when steam came out (if im right ;P)

1.5 > 1.6 = csgo > cz > source
beta 0.6x was also funny the models just looked very ugly :D not sure if youll even find pictures on the www (but ive got the setup hrhr )

guys help me out with this,
So the counter strike : condition zero package contains counter-strike & counter-strike:condition zero , and the one which says counter-strike is the first cs game ever.
which makes the rest of them (condition zero,source,global offence) latter installments in the franchise, right.
so, so cs 1.6 what is it???
is it the original counter-strike or condition-zero , or something else.
and why cant i buy them separately ??? is there a reason it always in a package???
im only asking this because i need cs 1.6(whatever that is) for garry's mod.

Well 1.6 is my first cs game I really like the older times. Basically you play on 800x600 resolution and the grenades physics are awesome. But the hitboxes are ♥♥♥♥♥♥ up but still fun to play
