Can i use my custom skins?

I'm currently attending school to become a game artist, and part of the program includes creating textures. Well, i'd like to put this to use by making some skins in CS:GO. Before i started though, i had one question: If i create a skin, could i use it in game? I realize i couldnt sell it or trade it cuz it wouldnt be an offical skin, but would i be able to personally use it in my game?

There are guides on steam for using your custom made skins by creating a backup of the original skin and replacing it with yours. This should only be used and I think will only work on offline servers, and needs to be reverted before playing on VAC secured servers.

VAC has nothing to do with enforcing offical skins. It's the sv_pure 1 command that dictates whether custom content is allowed or not which all offical servers have enabled.

There's community servers with VAC enabled but sv_pure 0. Here's one 72.5.195.76:27015

sv_pure 1 servers will kick you after editing the VPK file....
