Which maps do you select to play in competitive?
Since I'm fairly new to the game, I like to limit the number of maps to play on. Right now I only play Dust II, Nuke, Mirage, and Inferno. Sometimes Cache. Reason? I want to 'master' these maps before trying to get good at other maps.

However, I've been thinking that I should just activate all maps, including hostage maps for a couple different reasons:
1. The game will be more fun. It's more fun to play a variety of maps. Different environments.
2. Win more games. Even though I haven't 'mastered' these new maps, neither has anyone else! The more I play new maps, the better strategies I can come up with so I can beat players who are just activating the maps.

Some people only play Dust II. It's a good map, but there's only a limited number of places and strategies you can do on one map. Plus, since it's so popular, the other team might have the best strategies to beat you.

Competitive players don't like to play too many different maps. You play all the good competitive maps. Except Train, that one is also played often in pro matches.

I'd just play casual and learn the spots first of a map, and then play it.
Currently I usually do Dust 2, Nuke, and Inferno.

Dust2 is the most balanced map and that's why it's the most popular. In my opinion, the new maps that operation Breakout brought to us are garbage. I prefer Inferno, Nuke, Dust2 as Competitive maps. Mastering the classic maps will give you advantage in competitive gameplay because eSports (as I've seen) uses only them.

Dust2, for now. Simply because the last time I played CS (1.6) active was in the middle of 2011 and now I am rusty as hell.
i play all maps with my team. i think playing just one map is like to be a noob on cs.

That's the problem. If you're at a high level and only playing ones pros play and are used to, you can get rekt. But if you master lesser-known maps, you can get easy wins. Let's face it, only a handful of players get pro. Everyone seems to think that they're going to get pro for some reason. Let's face reality, it's a video game. Play it to have fun.

Usually Dust 2, Cache, Nuke, Mirage. I've always hated Inferno.
