BOT Derek is a very cool guy
The last two weeks I've had poor internet, meaning I can't play competitive at all. To satisfy (even just partially) my addiction to CS:GO, I've only been able to play on workshop maps alone or against bots.

With a few console commands, you can play 1v5 comp against the bots, so I've been doing just that. I play all of the active duty maps in a rotation, starting off against easy bots and slowly working my way up to expert, restarting the map rotation once I beat all of the maps on a difficulty.

I'm up against hard bots now, and I've been struggling on Inferno for some reason and lost twice in a row on it. I decided I'd give myself a friend. I added a bot to my team, and said hello to BOT Derek. I decided I'd let him be and I would never take control of him if I died, leaving clutch situations in his hands.

BOT Derek had trouble early on, often getting overwhelmed by several terrorists at a time. He had 1 kill and 5 deaths in the first few rounds, but fortunately for our team I was playing flawlessly and aced 5 out of the 6 first rounds (with a 4k in the other). Unfortunately the tide turned against us (when I decided to AWP), and despite me and him fighting desperately we lost several in a row. With our new loss bonus though, we managed to claw back the last two rounds of the half, ending 8-7.

Terrorist side was a different story. We dominated, winning the majority of the rounds. BOT Derek got some crucial kills, helping us win rounds with greater ease. He even was a pleasant teammate, telling me "Nice work" after I killed two in a row at Mid. One round in particular stood out. I picked one mid with my AWP, and BOT Derek lead the way down Banana. We moved toward B, BOT Derek watching site and me keeping an eye on a push from CT. BOT Derek got the crucial entry frag, killing a CT towards fountain, and turned around to watch his back and pushed CT. I focused my attention on site simultaneously, and threw a molly into Emo, fragging the CT as he ran out. With BOT Derek covering my back, I moved into site and no-scoped another enemy at second oranges. After planting the bomb, we held down the site against the remaining Counter Terrorist.

The seconds ticked down on the bomb, I kept an eye on both CT and banana from New box, BOT Derek playing sneaky beaky in a corner, ready to trade me if I missed my shot. Fortunately, I didn't miss and the round was won. Our chemistry was the best I've ever had with a teammate.

A couple wins later, it was match point. My AWPing was phenomenal, and I cleared out 3 rushing CTs in mid. We both moved in toward A site, me heading down lane and him down Archway. BOT Derek fragged one of the two remaining CTs, and starting moving back toward lane to assist me. I was engaging with a CT in pit, missing two easy shots. I fell back into the site, hoping the CT would try camping in a corner, like bots often do. I was back towards Moto sort of, and began planting the bomb facing pit, right out in the open. It was a deadly mistake.

BOT Seth, the last man alive and angry at the death of his friends, peeked out right as the bomb's code started to be punched in. I stared into the ominous gas mask, the face of death. 5.56 started whizzing right by, and already committed to the plant, I could only hope I got the bomb down before I met my doom. Blood spattered, the health bar hit red, and I knew it was the end.

I suddenly hear the sound of an AK-47. BOT Seth, startled, turned towards lane and started shooting, but it was far too late. He toppled backwards, his M4A4 spinning in the air. BOT Derek had done it, he had won us the round. He had won us the game.

I pressed Z+3, my character letting out an excited "Wooohooo!" I sniffled a little. I quietly whispered, "Thanks BOT Derek, you saved my life. I hope to see you again someday," as a tear rolled down my cheek. I reluctantly clicked the "Exit Game" button on the menu, returning to the lobby. Then my eardrums were blown out by the CS:GO menu song.

I would like to take the time to thank Valve for creating BOT Derek, he was a friendly man and a darn good teammate. The world needs more people like him, I'll never forget the time I spent with him
