Does surrendering a comp match count as two losses?

If you surrender early in the match, ranks aren't updated on the scoreboard screen, which implies that nobody has lost or gained anything. You'll never get deranked for surrendering very early, nor will you rank up if the opposing team surrenders early.

Not sure what the exact cut off point is, but it certainly has to be before half time. If you surrender later in the match when you're losing 10-6 for example, you're basically forfeiting the remaining rounds and your rank will be adjusted as if you lost 16-6.

So if a teammate quits early in a match, you should always surrender as quickly as possible unless the opposing team seems beatable in a 4vs5. If a teammate quits close to or after half time, you're probably better off just playing out the match and trying to get as many round wins and MVP stars as you can to limit the damage.

Maybe the system is intended to not show ranks that soon ?
You could potentially exploit it - surrunder first round , look at the ranks and if you meet them again you use that info to judge if your going to play them.
Anyway as long as its not stated anywhere officially its just pure speculation.
There are lots of things that aren't stated which we can be pretty certain about. For example, we know that MVP stars play a significant role in whether you rank up / derank. We also know that you can have terrible stats in every match, but if your team still wins X amount of times in a row, you will rank up, not down.

After 2.5k hours in CS:GO, i've never deranked after surrendering early in a match. Nor have I ever gained a rank when the enemy team surrenders early. It is therefore safe to assume that the game isn't counting this as a heavy loss / victory and adjusting ranks accordingly.

There are two reasons why this is likely the case:

1. It would be extremely unfair to punish players who surrender early when a teammate quits.

2. If you were punished for early surrenders, this would be exploitable by derankers who want to smurf at lower skill groups.

No one knows exactly. Maybe it counts as a 0:16, maybe as a whatever-your-score-is:16, maybe something else.

Eother way, surrendering is bad, I only ever did that when the enemy team was rage-cheating.

Why should a surrendering vote count as 2? when the only way to surrender its when someone got a ban or left the game so its count less then a regular lost

You do want enough rounds for the OW system though ( ive heard at least 9 in the past ).

That is true, exactly. Overwatch is 8 rounds so having at least 8 rounds make sense.

There is no loss counter, so no.
The author of this thread has indicated that this post answers the original topic.
