CSGO NOT LAUNCHING ON PROTON
Like it says, it is not launching at all and says can't connect local steam client. I uninstalled and installed steam again, verified the game files, still the same error. not just csgo, but no games are launching, which I guess is an issue with proton, maybe? I'm using Pop!OS, so basically, ubuntu. any help or update is appreciated.

I don't think CSGO has worked with Proton in months, you're supposed to use native

it has worked perfectly and I played it many times, just yesterday as well. It is only now that this has happened.

if you have an AMD gpu you should just swap to manjaro or some other arch variant. that is what steam deck uses so the support is fantastic OOTB. it just works™

If you're gonna use something Arch based, I'd avoid Manjaro. I'd recommend either pure Arch or something that uses their repo like EndeavourOS

if he is using ubuntu or pop! os, they probably dont want to spend time installing or configuring it. arch requires you to be at least somewhat competent with the command line.

You don't need to be super proficient in terminal to install Arch since they implemented archinstall, but even then you could try out EndeavourOS which has an easy installer.

But Arch still isn't beginner friendly so if it's too confusing, then Fedora and OpenSUSE Tumbleweed are somewhat similar in design and are much easier.

Manjaro should be avoided due to many years of bad practice which continues to this day. I used to use Manjaro almost daily on two different systems and both of them ended up breaking on me in less than a year. Their repos cause a lot of issues because they hold back packages for no good reasons.

i use gentoo on any computer i care about, but i manage too many computers to spend time configuring all of them. thanks for the post though, i didnt realize arch finally made their own installer.

I appreciate you guys' help, but this is the first time this has happened. it was working perfectly until 2 days ago and every game worked great. now, none of the games launch and show some kind of error, even the games that are native. I've tried native as well and still not launching, I don't understand what went wrong

So you have no games that launch anymore? Both through proton and native?

Try different version of proton. Can be switched via steam options. Some versions seems to be unusuable on certain systems.

What is the error that you get? Steam community has some great guides for Linux users which could help also.

Have you had any updates to OS/Proton/CS:GO lately (I never use auto update, I rather cherry pick the updates that I want/need)?

You could also try to launch CS:GO with these options and see if it helps:
-autoconfig -fullscreen -nojoy -steam -novid
