Shader pre-caching update: SEVERELY BROKEN on Linux and Mac

Valve broke CS:GO. Recent threads "Linux visual glitch" and "MacOS visual glitch", I made this thread to try funnel reports together with a useful name (i.e. the update that broke it).

Massive visual problems, insane tearing and colour issues. Player models are broken beyond description.

At first I blamed a Ubuntu OS update but then checked the Steam Library->Downloads and there was an update today "Shader pre-caching update".

Unplayable. Please fix.

I saw a few people claim that verifying game files helped. It does not help, I just went through that process.

i just loaded up 1.38.1.1 and at least on the home screen seems to be resolved.

i am having this issue and everytime i hold an awp in game my arm covers the whole screen and is unenjoyable

yeah, it's the most broken update I've seen. I want to play games tonight and now I can't because I only play CS, if I persevere for a few more decades I'll get up to 1:1 kill death ratio..

I tried changing nvidia drivers, didn't help. I tried deleteing ~/.cache/ didn't help. That was before I found out Steam had pushed an update.

Now we wait.
